Legends
of the Vale were back in action at the start
of Round 3. They had got off to their best start
to a eurofootballfives.com tournament to date
with 4 points from a possible 6. Their next
challenge was to face Budapest Celtic Heroes
– the second of 3 teams locked on 4 points at
the top.
Legends
of the Vale were enjoying a good little run
of games in our tournaments. They were now 5
games unbeaten. They lost their fifth game of
Group A (2-0 to Bure Park Seniors) in Mallorca
but since then had picked up a 0-0 draw in their
final group game, 1-1 draw in the Plate Semi-Finals
(winning on pens), 2-1 win in the Plate Final,
2-1 win here in Budapest and then most recently
drawn 1-1 with World Pinteur Veterans. This
was their longest unbeaten run to date.
They
were looking difficult to beat as they went
into the break level at 0-0 with their Hungarian
opposition here. In the second half they had
a great chance of extending that run and opening
up a 3 point lead at the top. Steve McDonald
scored his first goal for Legends of the Vale
in Europe to put them 1-0 up.
All
good things must come to an end though as Budapest
Celtic Heroes staged a late recovery. Kevin
Vernooij was the man to do the damage as he
first of all equalized and then bagged a winner
as the local side turned this game around. Final
score, Legends of the Vale 1-2 Budapest Celtic
Heroes.
World
Pinteur were making their third eurofootballfives.com
appearance. They were so close to making it a
winning start when they competed at the 2016 Lisbon
Tournament. In Group A they recorded 4 wins out
of 4 with 6 goals scored and 0 conceded. They
met Fundacao Benfica in the Cup Semi-Finals and
won the game 1-0. They then met Parques Tejo in
the Cup Final. They won 2-0 against them in the
group phase and were 2-0 up in the final before
Parques Tejo pegged back the French to 2-2. The
2016 Lisbon Tournament would be determined on
penalties and it was the Portuguese who were victorious,
2-0 in the shoot-out.
They
returned to action for the 2018 Riga Tournament
and were drawn in a very tight group. They opened
up with a 2-2 draw with Colonel Getafe before
their first win of the day (3-0) versus Stag Park
Rangers. They then finished the group with two
draws 1-1 versus Paralytic Athletic U23's and
0-0 versus Shahs of Sunset. They finished in second
place to qualify for the Cup. Their day ended
after a 2-1 defeat to Lithuania's Lilchicago in
the Quarter-Finals.
So
far today they had 4 points from 6 and needed
3 more to join Budapest Celtic Heroes at the top.
They were up against FC Dads Club. Benoit Botteau
gave them a lead at the start of this game. In
the second half the French moved through the gears
as Bruno Perez scored twice to make it 3-0 before
Pierre Lachaud completed a 4-0 win.
Bure
Park Old Boys were making their 11th appearance
in eurofootballfives.com competition. They had
8 appearances in our Open Age tournaments and
this was their third in our Veterans tournaments.
So far today they had 1 loss and 1 win. A second
win would move them to within a point of the leaders.
Their
opponents would be Peebles Nae Stars. Bure Park
and Peebles met twice in Mallorca 12 months ago.
Bure Park had the edge as the Seniors team defeated
Peebles All Stars 1-0 and there was also a 0-0
draw.
There
were more goals on offer here in Budapest as Bure
Park Old Boys opened the scoring through Matthew
Johnson. Ian Mansley scored the goal in the 1-0
win last year and he had scored in both games
today already. He was to maintain his goal-per-game
record with the second goal in this match. Half-time,
2-0.
After
the change of ends, Bure Park Old Boys polished
off the win with Matthew Johnson's second goal
of the game and third of the tournament. It was
a second successive 3-0 win for Bure Park Old
Boys who were making great strides up the table.
