As
we entered the fifth round of games each match
was becoming progressively more important. Games
were running out and points were becoming increasingly
valuable.
There
was no game more important in Group C to date
than this one – the battle at the top. It was
Budapest Vikings (4 wins out of 4) versus Budasesh
(3 wins out of 3). Both teams had a 100% record.
That record would go for one (or both) of these
teams in a few minutes.
So
far, Budapest Vikings lead the way having played
an extra game but they also had the superior
goal difference with +10 compared to the +7
for Budasesh. Budasesh had the only remaining
tournament clean sheet left in Group C.
Budapest
Vikings became the first team to breach that
defence though as Aadne Venatne put the local
side 1-0 up. Sam Booth doubled the advantage
as it looked like the Vikings were going to
make it 5 wins out of 5. Oliver Hind's third
of the tournament reduced the deficit to 2-1
but time was against the English team as they
slipped to their first defeat of the day.
Group
C continued with Budapest Celtic Tigers playing
home to The Crazy Gang. Budapest Celtic Tigers
were riding the crest of a wave with two wins
from their last two games. They had an opportunity
to make it three wins from three and could go
joint second in the table with victory.
The
Crazy Gang had suffered four defeats so far today
– a couple of those games had been defeat by the
odd goal (1-0 to Fail Madrid, 2-1 to John Lewis
FC). If they could build on that then there maybe
some points for the taking but it was a tough
ask against Budapest Celtic who had two eurofootballfives.com
titles to their name.
The
game went with the form book as Budapest Celtic
Tigers made no mistakes in securing another win.
Sergio Navarro was the man to break the deadlock,
Sinisa Jankulasevic gave them some breathing space
before Micael Dias sealed the victory.
Game
15 of Group C was a pivotal game in the middle
table. It was fifth placed John Lewis FC versus
fourth placed Fail Madrid. The two teams were
locked together on three points each.
With
the results so far in Round 5 the three teams
above these two in the table were on 15 points,
9 points and 9 points respectively. To keep tabs
on the leaders this was a must win game for both
teams. A draw/defeat would almost certainly end
their hopes of reaching the Cup competition.
Momentum
was arguably against Fail Madrid as they had picked
up their win in their opening game before two
defeats. However, they ran the league leaders
closer than anyone last time out so that could
well give them confidence. John Lewis FC had kicked
off with two defeats before picking up a win last
time out.
In
a close contest it was to be Fail Madrid who were
to snatch victory. There was a second clean sheet
for Rob Maller in goal and a first goal of the
day for Graham Hargraves to earn Fail Madrid their
second 1-0 win of the day.
