Going into the final round of games, John Lewis FC had a monumental task on their hands. In theory, Cup qualification and third place was still possible. In reality, the odds were stacked against them. They were up against the league leaders, they would need a big reversal in goal difference to Budasesh above them plus Fail Madrid/Argon'ze were also still in the mix.

Budapest Vikings had already qualified for the Cup. They needed just a point to take the Group C title. They could even afford a loss if Budapest Celtic Tigers failed to win. Even if the Tigers won, Budapest Celtic needed a 7 goal swing in goal difference to prevent the Vikings winning the group.

We've noted a few times in this report that John Lewis FC had been on the wrong end of a few 1-0 defeats. This time they produced a sensational performance to be on the right end of a 1-0 win. It was a superb result as Sean Hills goal inflicted a first defeat on Budapest Vikings.

We turned our attentions to the middle of the table as Argon'ze met Fail Madrid.

At the start of Round 7, we had three teams in 4th to 6th locked on 6 points. One of those teams (John Lewis FC) had moved on to 9 points. A win for either team here would mean three teams in 3rd to 5th locked on 9 points. Goal difference would separate them and the team in third had the chance to get into the Cup if they were one of the two best third placed teams.

In terms of the respective form, Fail Madrid had gone W-L-L-W-L. Argon'ze had gone L-L-W-L-W. Argone'ze had 6 points from a possible 9 recently so form was arguably with them. Each team's wins/losses had come against the same opposition. Fail Madrid had the better goal difference (-2), Argon'ze not far behind (-3). There was little to choose between the two teams.

The two teams had met at the 2017 Barcelona Fives, on that occasion Fail Madrid 2 beat Argon'ze 1-0 thanks to an own goal. Fail Madrid didn't need a helping hand this time as a Dan Venables goal earned the English team a 1-0 win.

To finalise Group B we had Budapest Celtic Tigers versus Budasesh. Budapest Celtic Tigers were currently flying in Group C. Since they lost their first game to Budapest Vikings they had gone on a run of 1-0, 2-1, 3-0 and 2-0 victories.

For Budasesh, the form was moving in a different direction. They had picked up 3 successive wins before slipping to 2 successive defeats.

Budapest Celtic Tigers were already assured a place in the Cup. They needed a point to finish second and a win could potentially see them as Group C winners although they needed a 5 goal win.

Budasesh could go second with a win and shift in goal difference but they were almost certain of a place in the Cup. Third place was theirs with a draw or better. They could afford a loss as long as it wasn't a heavy one – they were reaping the benefits of their fast start earlier in the day. As long as they maintained a positive goal difference they would be one of the two best third placed finishers to qualify for the Cup.

Budapest Celtic Tigers continued their good form as Sinisa Jankulasevic bagged his fifth goal of the tournament to go 1-0 up. Matt Parrish levelled things up with his third goal of the day. Budapest Celtic Tigers were to make it 5 wins on the bounce courtesy of Adam Majaws goal.

The 2-1 win concluded Group C and the group phase of the 2019 Budapest Fives.
