Legends
of the Vale made their Veterans debut with us
last year. They had a positive start in Mallorca
with a 1-1 draw against Policia Local de Palma
but then went down 1-0 to Bure Park Seniors.
They then drew 0-0 with Peebles All Stars before
their first win of the day (1-0) over Policia
Local de Palma. Bure Park Seniors did for them
2-0 before another 0-0 draw with Peebles All
Stars finished their campaign. They finished
joint third in the table to qualify for the
Plate.
In
the Plate they drew 1-1 with Telferscot FC in
the Semi-Finals. They progressed 1-0 via a penalty
shoot-out. In the Plate Final they defeated
Bure Park Old Boys 2-1 to end the tour victorious.
Today,
Legends of the Vale opened up with a 2-1 win
over Peebles Nae Stars. They now faced World
Pinteur Veterans who were tipped to do well
in this tournament.
Legends
of the Vale got off to a cracking start though
as they lead through Steve Finnis. World Pinteur
Veterans levelled it up with a Guillaume Sourd
equaliser as the teams changed ends level at
1-1. With no further score in the second half
the teams shared the points and shared the lead
at the top of Group A.
The
next game was Budapest Celtic Heroes against Peebles
Nae Stars. Budapest Celtic had been ever-present
in our Budapest Fives tournaments since the inaugural
edition in 2011. They had also taken four tours
abroad (Valencia Fives, Barcelona Fives, Krakow
Trophy, Bratislava Fives) with us but this was
their first appearance in our Veterans events.
The
Hungarians started off solidly with a 0-0 draw
against FC Dads Club but would now look to kick-on.
Peebles Nae Stars had begun with a narrow 1-0
loss so were looking to bounce back. This was
the first time Peebles had competed with two squads
in our events and the Nae Stars were the additional
squad.
It
was so far so good for the Nae Stars at the break
with the teams still level at 0-0. However, Budapest
Celtic Heroes then got their noses in front thanks
to a goal from Phil Rosessel. There was then a
Scottish goal but sadly for Nae Stars it was Joe
McCann – Scottish import for Budapest Celtic –
who grabbed the goal to secure the win for the
local Hungarian team.
Last
year at the 2018 Mallorca Veterans Tournament,
FC Dads Club (playing as The Special Ones) opened
up with a 1-1 draw against Bure Park Old Boys.
They then picked up another point with a 2-2 draw
against Epsom Ath in what was a really tight group.
A narrow 3-2 loss against Vila Roca set them back
and they needed a win from their final game to
make the knockout phase but a 1-0 loss to Telferscot
FC saw them exit the competition.
Today
they opened up with a good 0-0 against Budapest
Celtic Heroes. They were now up against for Bure
Park Old Boys for the second year in a row. Bure
Park Old Boys were looking to bounce back from
an opening game defeat to World Pinteur Veterans
and they got off to the start they needed with
a goal from Ian Mansley – his second in as many
games.
The
second half kicked off with Bure Park Old Boys
lead intact. It was to increase as Oscar Calusi
scored his first goal in eurofootballfives.com
competition before Matthew Johnson rounded off
a fine 3-0 win. Bure Park Old Boys were up and
running.
