Two
rounds to go and 6 games of football left on
the schedule to decide the teams' fates in Group
C. The Crazy Gang would take to the field for
their final fixture against an Argon'ze team
who had a game in hand.
The
Crazy Gang would most likely finish in seventh
place whatever the result here due to goal difference.
They could go level with the two teams above
them but The Crazy Gang were -13 compared to
John Lewis FC (-2) and Argon'ze (-4). The two
best seventh placed teams would qualify for
the Trophy, the other team would be eliminated.
As things stood, the three seventh placed teams
would be separated by goal difference and The
Crazy Gang were second best. Putting points
on the board would almost certainly avoid elimination.
Argon'ze
could still end up on 9 points with a win-win
finish but with the other fixtures to come they
were unlikely to reach the Cup. Realistically
they were looking to reach the Plate and they
would most likely need 4 points or more to achieve
that. Against the bottom club they had a good
opportunity to put 3 of those points on the
board.
The
Crazy Gang had other ideas though as Phil Lockwood
Taylor bagged his second of the tournament.
Argon'ze hit back though to make it 1-1 and
then they turned it around with Amaury Lethu
striking a winner, 2-1.
Budasesh
had enjoyed a whirlwind start to the day with
three quick wins in a row. They then suffered
defeat to league leaders Budapest Vikings. They
were currently six points off top spot and had
seen Budapest Celtic Tigers draw level with them
on 9 points. They needed to get back to winning
ways to move into second position on their own.
John
Lewis FC's third 1-0 defeat in four games in the
previous round had set them back. Argon'ze's win
in the previous game had seen them slip to sixth
position. A win here would see them go joint fourth
on six points.
The
game went against the league positions as it was
John Lewis FC who opened up a 2-0 lead. Tom Rooney
scored his second goal of the tournament to put
John Lewis FC 1-0 up before Sean Hills added to
the lead. It wasn't totally plain sailing for
John Lewis FC as Matt Parrish pulled a goal back
for Budasesh.
When
the referee blew for full-time John Lewis FC had
their second win of the day and were up to fourth
on goal difference.
That
left us with Fail Madrid v Budapest Celtic Tigers
to complete Round 6. Fail Madrid had risen to
fourth with a win in the last round but had slipped
to fifth with John Lewis FC's win in the game
above. They could reclaim fourth with a point
or better from this game.
Aside
from our league leaders, Budapest Celtic Tigers
were the form team in Group C. They had 3 wins
from their previous 3 games. With Budasesh suffering
defeat to John Lewis FC, Budapest Celtic Tigers
had the opportunity to take second place on their
own. It would take them to 12 points which would
be enough to qualify for the Cup even if they
fell to third. Cup qualification was there for
the Tigers' taking.
The
Hungarian team kept the form going thanks to Stefan
Jevtic giving his team a 1-0 lead before Sinisa
Jankulasevic scored his fourth of the tournament.
Final score, 2-0.
