At
the start of Round 4 we had two teams running
away with it on 9 points (Budapest Vikings and
Budasesh). We had three teams locked together
in mid table on 3 points (Argon'ze, Budapest
Celtic Tigers and Fail Madrid). We then had
two teams looking to kickstart their challenge
at the tail end of the table (John Lewis FC
and The Crazy Gang).
We
began Round 4 with two of those mid-table teams,
Argon'ze versus Budapest Celtic Tigers. A win
for either team would see the victor start to
close the gap on the teams above. A draw would
benefit those at the top and the chasing pack.
Both
teams secured their 3 points in their most recent
game and would hope to keep their momentum going.
It looked like Budapest Celtic Tigers would
do just that as Sinisa Jankulasevic scored not
once but twice to put the Hungarian team in
control.
Argon'ze
reduced the deficit to 2-1 as Huge Leroy scored
for the second game in a row but time was against
them as Budapest Celtic Tigers claimed all 3
points.
Fail
Madrid were next up on Pitch E as they took on
Budapest Vikings. With the result in the game
above, Fail Madrid had slipped from third to fourth
in the table. They could return to third with
a win of their own but they had a fearful task
ahead of them.
Budapest
Vikings were top of the pile with three successive
3-0 wins. It looked like that could well be four
successive 3-0 wins as they opened up a 2-0 win.
Oldne was the man to set them on their way before
Sam Booth made it 2-0. Fail Madrid then became
the first team to score against the Vikings today
when Dan Venables reduced the arrears to 2-1.
It
was to get even better for Fail Madrid when they
levelled it up at 2-2 as goalkeeper Rob Maller
equalized. At this point Fail Madrid were full
value for the point they were on course for. Budapest
Vikings were to regain the initiative as they
struck a later winner to keep their 100% record
going but they'd had a big scare. Eirik Lea was
the man to score the crucial fifth goal of the
game.
That
Fail Madrid ended this game with nothing to show
for their efforts was tough.
Game
12 of Group B was The Crazy Gang versus John Lewis
FC. These two teams sat in sixth and seventh but
there was still plenty of points on offer for
both teams to climb up the table.
John
Lewis FC might consider themselves a tad unlucky
to be on 0 points so far as they had suffered
two narrow 1-0 defeats. They must have been relieved
to break their duck in the tournament as Tom Rooney
opened the scoring. They had a bit of breathing
space when Sean Hills doubled the lead to 2-0.
At
2-0, John Lewis FC were in command but not yet
safe. At last year's 2018 Gdansk Tournament, The
Crazy Gang had their top scoring tournament with
10 goals. Phil Lockwood Taylor scored 4 of those
goals and he was to score his team's first of
the tournament. He held off two defenders and
struck the ball into the top scorer for 2-1.
John
Lewis FC were able to see the game out without
any further scare and they had their first win
and three points of the tournament.
