With 7 teams in each group, 1 team would sit out each round. In Round 1 it was John Lewis FC but they would kick us off in the second round of fixtures having had a chance to size up their opposition from Round 1. They were up against Budapest Celtic Tigers.

John Lewis FC made their first appearance in our tournaments at the 2018 Amsterdam Sixes. They had a tough opening game as they lost to former Mallorca Tournament winners Cheesecake FC. They then recovered to pick up a 1-1 draw against defending champions Vieze Vu. A 3-1 defeat to Swiss side FC Letcom followed before picking up another point with a 2-2 draw versus Lostwithiel FC. A 4-2 defeat in their final game meant they missed out on the knock-out phase.

Budapest Celtic Tigers had opened up today with a 3-0 defeat but they managed to put that result behind them and pick up their first win of the day. It was a hard fought and narrow victory as just one goal separated the two teams. Micael Dias was the man with the golden touch to secure the win.

Game 5 of Group B was Budasesh versus The Crazy Gang.

Budasesh arrived in Budapest following tours to Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona and Berlin. With an ever-changing name they began their journey as Amsterdamage who made the Plate Semi-Finals in the 2009 Amsterdam Fives before crashing out in the cruellest of fashions, on penalties, to miss out on a debut final. One year later in the 2010 Prague Masters, as Masters of the Pooniverse, they reached the Plate Semi-Finals again when an injury depleted squad narrowly missed out to DHL Prague Red. In Barcelona in 2011 (as Warlords Against Narrow Klunge) they finished 3rd in their 5 team group and narrowly missed out on a 3rd successive Plate Semi-Final going down in the Quarters.

Their most recent appearance was at the 2012 Berlin Fives and they competed well despite starting off with a 1-0 defeat to Hasanheide Camels (Ger). They recovered well with a 2-1 revenge win over DHL Prague Red (Cze). Two draws followed (3-3 v Energie Cobalt, 1-1 v Northern Monkeys) before a narrow 1-0 loss in their final group game to FC Wein Schweine Fliegen. It meant 5th place in a 6-team group despite a goal difference of just -1. It meant they qualified for the Trophy competition as the top points scorers at this level but went out in the QF to FC Cobaltslautern.

They already had a win under their belts today and would soon have a second. A narrow 1-0 win in Round 1 was followed by a resounding 5-0 win in Round 2. Oliver Hind (x2), Dan Quirk (x2) and Robert Browning were all on target.

To complete Round 2 we had Budapest Vikings versus Argon'ze. The former were looking to make it two wins out of two. The latter were looking to bounce back from opening game defeat.

Argon'ze made their debut at the 2016 Barcelona Fives. They were drawn in the 8-team Group C and made a very solid start with two draws including a 0-0 against the eventual champions in their opening fixture. They then struggled with three defeats before a strong finish. They won their final two games (both 1-0) to finish in 5 th position. It meant they qualified for the Trophy knock-out phase where they departed at the Quarter-Final stage due to a 4-1 defeat to Spanish side Bolivar.

They then took 2 teams to the 2017 Mallorca Fives. The Ze'Argon team finished 4 th of 6 teams in Group B with 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats. They drew 1-1 with Mannenliefde in the Quarter-Finals before exiting the tournament on penalties. Argon'ze finished 3rd of 6 teams in Group C with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. They qualified for the Plate and defeated the Netherlands' FC De Rimmer 3-0 in the Quarter-Finals before a 2-1 defeat to another Dutch team, Mannenliefde, who had accounted for their Ze'Argon sister squad.

They also returned to the Barcelona Fives in 2017. The Argon'ze team struggled in a very tough group and finished 7th of 8 teams. The Ze'Argon team were more successful with 3 wins in the group stage. They finished 5th of 8 teams to qualify for the Trophy knock-out tournament. They began with a 1-0 win over Wonder Vision in the Quarter-Finals. They then drew 1-1 with Leek High Boys in the Semi-Finals but left the tournament after a 2-0 loss on penalties.

2018 saw a third successive visit to Barcelona (see Round 1 for preview). This was proving to be a tough start for the French as Budapest Vikings inflicted a second defeat on them. Benjamin Pekmezovic scored the opening two goals before Mathias Voldines completed the 3-0 win.
