For the sixteenth time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. This was a great opportunity for the teams finishing 6th and 7th in the group phase to turn their fortunes around and walk away with a trophy.

The Trophy would be played on a Semi-Final and Final basis. The first semi-final would be played between the second best 6 th placed team and the second best 7th placed team in the group phase. The former was Argon'ze (Fra) and the latter was due to be The Crazy Gang (Eng) but they withdrew from the tournament leading to the promotion of Tom's Mum Is A Tramp FC (Eng)

Argon'ze would be strong favourites for this game as they picked up 6 points in the group phase and ended with a goal difference of -4. In contrast their opponents had failed to pick up a point and had a tournament goal difference of -31. It needs to be pointed out that Argon'ze had a strong squad of 8 whereas Tom's Mum Is A Tramp FC had played with the bare 5. The English team also came from a much higher scoring group due to goal sizes.

The first half went to form with the French team taking a 1-0 lead into the half-time interval. Hugo Leroy had been Argon'ze's main scorer so far and he was the scorer here with his third of the tournament. In the second half Tom's Mum Is A Tramp FC pulled level thanks to a Ewan Wynd goal. Should the game end in a draw we would need penalties to decide the game but this would not be necessary. Hugo Leroy was on hand to restore the French lead and win it, 2-1, for Argon'ze.

So, who would take their place in the Trophy Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were GSF Drunkerz and FC Shaolin Badgers.

This was the third best sixth placed team taking on the best seventh placed team. As it turned out, both teams had emerged from Group B. Earlier in the day, the teams had met in Game 7 of Group B. On that occasion GSF Drunkerz had won 1-0 thanks to a strike from Jozef Virdzek.

It was a surprise to see GSF Drunkerz at this level. In their previous four tournaments with us they had reached the Plate once (winning it) and the Cup three times (reaching the final twice). In fact, in 9 knock-out games in our tournaments GSF Drunkerz were unbeaten in normal time. Twice they had exited on penalty shoot-outs after a draw.

The above statistics show the strength in depth in this tournament and that FC Shaolin Badgers had perhaps been a touch unlucky to choose such a strong line-up for their eurofootballfives.com debut. One game aside, they had been competitive throughout the tournament and had picked up an excellent win over World Pinteur at the end of the group phase.

This game turned out to be a repeat of the group game between the two sides. GSF Drunkerz took a 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of a Daniel Badusek strike. In the second half FC Shaolin Badgers were unable to find the equalizing goal and exited the tournament. Thank you for appearing in our tournaments and we hope to see you again in the future.
