We
began Group B with Mamarre FC (Hun) versus FC
Shaolin Badgers (Eng). We now had two teams
on Pitch D making their eurofootballfives.com
debut. They would have a blank canvas upon which
to paint their footballing artistry. Let the
games commence….
Mamarre
FC were representing Hungary who had traditionally
been strong in our tournaments. The last three
champions at the Budapest Fives were Hungarian
plus we had Budapest Celtic and FC Miracle win
overseas at the Krakow Trophy and Valencia Fives
respectively. Mamarre FC had a lot to live up
to!
These
two teams played out a very close contest and,
in the end, just the one goal would separate
these two teams. The man of the moment was Edoardo
Marongiu who had the honour of scoring his team's
first goal in eurofootballfives.com tournament.
It
was a 1-0 winning start for Mamarre FC. It was
defeat for FC Shaolin Badgers but only a narrow
one against high quality opposition.
Match
2 in Group B saw JUBI Titans (Hun) entertain Fiorentina
Turner (Eng). The former were making their second
appearance in our tournaments, the latter were
making their third after trips to Barcelona and
Mallorca.
JUBI
Titans were a team who promised much when they
appeared here in 2017 and they almost delivered.
In
a tough Group B, only 4 points separated the top
3 teams. They picked up 2 wins, 2 draws and just
the 1 defeat as they finished third in the table.
They had done enough to reach the Cup as one of
the two best third placed teams. In the Cup Quarter-Finals
they produced a fantastic win over 2016 Krakow
Trophy champions Tinniedad & Tobacco, 3-1.
They then defeated the 2008 Krakow Trophy champions,
Red Light Runners of Ireland 3-0 in the Semi-Final.
This set up a Cup Final against Budapest Celtic
Hoops which ended 1-1 after normal time. JUBI
Titans missed out on the title 2-1 in the penalty
shoot-out.
JUBI
Titans got off to a winning start in 2019 with
a 3-0 win over Fiorentina Turner thanks to goals
from Krisztian Jenei and Peter Csanady (x2).
The
next two teams to get underway in Round 1 were
World Pinteur and GSF Drunkerz. It was France
versus Slovakia.
Both
have appeared in our tournaments before, the most
recent performance was World Pinteur who return
to action after the 2018 Riga Tournament where
they were drawn in a very tight group. They opened
up with a 2-2 draw with Colonel Getafe before
their first win of the day (3-0) versus Stag Park
Rangers. They then finished the group with two
draws 1-1 versus Paralytic Athletic U23's and
0-0 versus Shahs of Sunset. They finished in second
place to qualify for the Cup. Their day ended
after a 2-1 defeat to Lithuania's Lilchicago in
the Quarter-Finals.
With
3 draws in their 4 group games it was perhaps
no surprise that World Pinteur opened up with
a draw at the start of their Budapest campaign.
Both defences were on top as Alexandre Braud (World
Pinteur) and Miroslav Saga (GSF Drunkerz) both
kept clean sheets. Final score, 0-0.
