For the third time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. The one thing we knew at the start of the Quarter-Final stage was that the winner would be English as all 8 teams had travelled from the UK. I wonder what this suggests about the English teams pre-tournament preparation in the bars and clubs of Budapest the night before? With a nightlife like Budapest has to offer it would be rude not to!

Cava Sundays and Breckland FC would get us underway and we had to applaud Cava Sundays before kick-off. Breckland FC were down to 4 fit players and Cava Sundays very graciously allowed their opponents to draft in a new squad member to be back up to 5 players and make a game of it.

With the game in action their fair play was rewarded as they took a first half lead through Dan Hutchinson. After the break Hutchinson doubled his own tally and that of Cava Sundays as his team ran out 2-0 victors and they were through to the Semi-Finals.

It was farewell to the walking wounded Breckland FC for today.

On Pitch B we had FC Dad versus RS Ocean Village FC. Both teams had four defeats in their first four fixtures but picked up a positive result right at the end of the group campaign to boost their morale going in to the knock-out phase. FC Dad had picked up a victory and RS Ocean Village FC had scored their first goals and taken their first point.

It was FC Dad who opened the scoring with Calum Jones second goal of the tournament. It was a goal that gave his team a first half lead. After the break Akbar Shah made it two goals in two games as he discovered his shooting boots for RS Ocean Village FC. It would not be enough to save his team though as a Graham Dodds goal proved decisive in seeing FC Dad through to the next round 2-1.

RS Ocean Village FC could now take a well-earned rest. With a squad of 5 players they had worked their socks off on a hot day in Budapest.

On Pitch C FC Maroon were hoping to make it an FC Dad / FC Maroon double in the Semi-Finals. Standing in their way were Stanford FC.

FC Maroon were arguably favourites for this tie and the whole Trophy competition. With 6 points in the group stage and just the one defeat in the group phase they had by far the best record of any team in this competition and they can consider themselves unlucky not to be in the Plate.

They lived up to their billing and lead at half-time. They lead by the odd goal in three as goals from Matt Alawi and Murat Haykir outgunned Danny Hammett's goal for Stanford FC. After the break FC Maroon opened up a two goal cushion as Matt Alawi made it 3-1 and sent his team through to the Semi-Finals.

It was the end of the tournament for Stanford FC who have identified the 2015 Mallorca Tournament as their next venture into Europe. We look forward to seeing them then.

Last but not least was Contejus Hurricanes against Old Man Hortors Revival. The Hurricanes came into the game as 5th position in Group D versus 6th position in Group C.

Old Man Hortors Revival had the second best defensive record of the teams in the group phase conceding just four goals in five games. This was shot to pieces though by Contejus Hurricanes who had found their form. Martin Weltman got the ball rolling before Thomas Lock and Joe Latimer made it 3-0 at the break. Old Man Hortors Revival were staring down the barrel and were facing an exit from the tournament. It got even worse after the break as Contejus Hurricanes made it 4-0 through Martin Weltman and that's how it finished.

We'd like to thank Old Man Hortors Revival for taking the trip to Budapest and supporting the tournament. We trust you had a great weekend in the Hungarian capital.
