Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 5. Match 10 of the group was Meglepetes against RS Ocean Village FC. After a defeat in the first game Meglepetes had responded well picking up four points out of a possible six. They were looking to go three games unbeaten and a win would see them join three other teams on top with 7 points.

RS Ocean Village FC were looking for their first goal and first points of the day. Could they put a spanner in the works of Meglepetes? Sadly for RS Ocean Village FC the answer to that was ‘no'. Peter Hegedus gave Meglepetes a first half lead, 1-0.

After the break Meglepetes went from strength to strength as Gabor Toth made it 2-0, Peter Guzy made it 3-0 and Kristof Lenart completed the scoring for a superb 4-0 win. The result put Meglepetes into a four team tie on top and they were currently in second position on goal difference. Their rivals did have a game in hand though.

For RS Ocean Village FC the search for goals and points went on and it was a margin of defeat that saw them slip from 5th to 6th in the table.

Budapest Celtic Lions were one of Meglepetes' rivals on 7 points in the table. They were next in action knowing a win would allow them to open up a 3 point game at the top. Contejus Hurricanes were languishing at the foot of the table and this was the last fixture they'd have wanted to register their first points of the day.

The game was closer than many may have expected having looked at the table before kick-off and maybe this was signs of Contejus Hurricanes emerging from their slumber / hangover and get into that knock-out form.

There was only one goal in this game and it came in the opening exchanges as Leo Kronberger struck to earn the Lions all 3 points. It was just a slender 1-0 win for Budapest Celtic Lions but it was enough to open up a lead at the top of Group D.

That left us with the final two teams on 7 points still to play their fourth fixture – Bozeat FC and Skidmarks. It was becoming crunch time in Group D and a win here would go a long way to securing Cup football this afternoon. Either team could move into a share of 1st place with a win whereas a defeat would leave them in joint 3rd place. A draw incidentally would mean the teams would be level on 8 points in joint 2nd place.

If it looked a tight game on paper it was nothing like that on the pitch as Skidmarks responded superbly to dropping their first points in the previous fixture. They took no time at all in racing into a 3-0 lead and it was only half-time. The game was already lost for Bozeat you felt (although teams have recovered in our tournaments before from 3-0 down) but they put in a stronger second half performance. They could not prevent Skidmarks adding another to their tally though as they ran out 4-0 victors.

There was a brace each for Gary Hatfield and Stephen Daly as Skidmarks ensured they were on top of Group D again (on goal difference over Budapest Celtic Lions). Job done for them!
