The A Team (Fra)

Round 4 of Group A began with a resurgent Johnsbridge FC versus Budapest Celtic Pumas. The Hungarian team had just tasted defeat for the first time so the onus was now on them to respond and rekindle their Budapest Fives challenge.

Johnsbridge FC were looking to make it 3 wins in succession and if they could achieve this then they would join CIS Committee at the top of Group A on 9 points (temporarily at least). It did not quite go to plan for the English team in the opening exchanges as a Lewis Kelly thunderbolt put the Pumas 1-0 up.

The second half began with no further addition to the score. There would be a change to the score after the break though as Kirpal Sadheura scored his second goal in as many games to equalize at 1-1. The full time whistle went and the match finished in a draw with the teams each earning a point.

Johnsbridge FC were in second place and Budapest Celtic Pumas moved ahead of the A Team into third although the French team did have a game in hand.

CIS Committee were up next and with the above result now had the chance to open up a 5 point gap at the top of Group A which would clinch Cup qualification and also secure the Group A title. On paper this should have been a formality against the bottom team.

Stanford FC were looking for their first goals and points of the tournament so it looked ominous for them when Vitali Ledenev proved lightning can strike not just once, twice or thrice but four times. This was the fourth game in a row he had scored the opening goal of the game in the first half….this was getting predictable! Aliaksandr Chaikouski netted his third of the tournament and gave CIS Committee a 2-0 lead at half-time.

CIS Committee had yet to concede in the tournament and Stanford FC had yet to score so it was pretty obvious who scored the next goal? Yes, you guessed it – Stanford FC. Congratulations to Danny Hammett for scoring his team's first of the day and reducing arrears to 2-1.

Stanford FC had put in a great shift but alas for them it was not quite enough against the team who had just won Group A.

Next up was a crucial fixture between Cava Sundays and The A Team. The teams currently sat in 5th position and 4th position respectively – a win was vital to propel them up the table and keep their Cup aspirations alive. The Cup was still a definite possibility for both teams.

Momentum is often mooted as a key issue in football and Cava Sundays came into the game on the back of a win. The A Team were on the slide having gone win-draw-defeat. They showed signs of arresting this slide as Dydynho put the French team ahead. The top goalscorer in the 2013 Krakow Trophy was now on four goals for the tournament. The first half finished 1-0.

Into the second half and the second goal was going to be crucial. When it came it was Abdelinho who scored it and The A Team could now plump a two goal cushion. At 2-0 there was no way back for Cava Sundays as the A Team returned to winning ways. They rose to second place.

For Cava Sundays it meant hopes of Cup qualification had been extinguished. The Plate was still a possibility for them at this stage.
