We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with teams representing Hungary, England and France still in with a chance of silverware.

The first Semi-Final would see The A Team of France versus FC Radbroke of England. This game would not have looked out of place in a Cup competition. So, for a Plate Semi-Final this was a real heavyweight contest. Both teams had played in eurofootballfives.com Finals before – who would reach one today?

We were to bear witness to a very close first half and neither team could break the deadlock. The teams reached the interval at 0-0.

This game had the potential to be decided by the odd goal or even go all the way to penalties. The latter were not necessary on this occasion as Mike Brandon of FC Radbroke scored the only goal of the game to go through.

An injury-ravaged A Team were out. They had approximately 5 weeks to prepare for their next challenge in our 2014 Mallorca Tournament.

The second Semi-Final was Budapest Celtic Panthers versus Meglepetes. Who could join FC Radbroke in the Plate Final?

The Budapest Celtic Panthers got off to a flyer and quickly established a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Feliz Pouzet and Bastien Morel (2). Peter Hegedus scored the goal for Meglepetes that kept them in the tie. After the break Kristof Lenart scored his fourth goal of the tournament to make it 3-2. It was certainly game on. Peter Hegedus then scored his sixth goal of the tournament to even things up at 3-3. That's how it finished and we had a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.

It was Meglepetes to take the first penalty and the referee was particularly hot on the goalkeeper staying on his line which saw the first penalty retaken twice. On the third attempt Mate Palmai saw his strike flash wide. Bastien Morel with two goals in the game took full advantage to make it 1-0 Panthers.

Peter Guzy stepped up for Meglepetes and made it 1-1 before Marvin Croft re-established a 2-1 lead. Kristof Lenart stepped forward for Meglepetes and he had to score to keep his team in it. Cristian Lazarescu saved it though and Budapest Celtic Panthers were into the Final.

Meglepetes would not be able to defend their Plate title today and they exited the competition. We hope it will be Budapest tournament #3 for them next May.
