We were at the 2014 Budapest Fives Cup Semi-Final stage and from 24 teams who started the day we were down to the final 4 – already an achievement for those who were still in the hunt for glory.

The first Cup Semi-Final would see CIS Committee versus Budapest Celtic Lions. CIS Committee came into the game as the team to beat and still possessing their 100% record – six games, six wins. Budapest Celtic Lions were still on the charge to add the 2014 Budapest Fives title to their 2013 Krakow Trophy win.

Whoever came out on top in this one would have pulled out a great result. At half-time we were no closer to knowing who would make the Cup Final as we were tied at 0-0. After the break though, CIS Committee moved through the gears in a simply stunning performance. Henadzi Nestsiuk scored the first goal of the game before Vitali Ledenev (6th of the tournament), Aliaksandr Lisouski and Aliaksandr Chaikouski (6th of the tournament) all piled in to record a resounding 4-0 victory.

It was a tough exit for Budapest Celtic Lions who had simply met a team at the top of their game in that second half. CIS Committee were looking very very good and peaking at just the right time.

So, who would take their place in the Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were Csabagyongye against Argentina. Back in 2011 Csabagyongye were only seconds away from reaching the Cup Final before a last gasp equalizer for Olympic Phil Babb took them to penalties which they lost. At that stage Olympic Phil Babb were on a run of 4 tournament victories in 4 attempts. Who knows what would have happened if Csabagyongye had held on for just a minute more.

This was their best chance since then of making a eurofootballfives.com Cup Final. In their way stood Argentina who had managed to defeat two-times eurofootballfives.com winners FC Radbroke and two-times eurofootballfives.com winners Skidmarks already today. They were playing very well and this one would be a tough one to call.

An early goal handed the initiative to Argentina and it was Arturo who scored it. With the game opening up we expected more goals. However, Csabagyongye were unable to find an equalizer and Argentina were unable to seal the victory so the game went all the way to the final whistle with the match in the balance. Ultimately though, Argentina had done enough to see off Csabagyongye and were through to the Cup Final.

We think it was Csabagyongye's best performance in our tournaments since 2011 and they are due to play in the 2014 Barcelona Fives where maybe they can go even further.
