Csabagyongye (Hun)

Going into the final round of games there were 5 teams who all had a chance of reaching the Cup competition. Of these teams Csabagyongye were favourites and 9 Nana Budds had a very good chance – they would have to win their last game though. It would not be an easy game against Csabagyongye who had a 100% record to date. Neither team had conceded a goal today so a win for either side would be a hard earned one.

One of those defences would be breached in this fixture and it would be Csabagyongye picking the ball out of their net as John Mastel struck the first blow for 9 Nana Budds. The English team defence remained resolute and the goal took us into half-time, 1-0.

The pressure was now on Csabagyongye who would ideally want at least a point from this game (although they did have a game in hand). They did all they could but they couldn't score. When the referee blew for full time it remained 1-0 and 9 Nana Budds goalkeeper had achieved a remarkable feat of going through an entire 6-team group without conceding a single goal – huge congratulations to him.

The win put 9 Nana Budds joint top but behind their opponents on goal difference. Their fate was now out of their hands and they would have to wait and see if they'd done enough to reach the Cup. Regardless, they'd put in a superb morning's work.

A Boro Fiuk and Budapest Celtic Panthers met on Pitch B in an all-Hungarian team (if not player) encounter. A win for A Boro Fiuk would see them seal a place in the Cup at the expense of 9 Nana Budds. Anything less and the Plate would await them this afternoon. For Budapest Celtic Panthers the Cup was now beyond them but they could secure a place in the Plate with victory. Anything less for them and they would be at the mercy of FC Maroon in the final fixture.

For both teams their fate was in their own hands – all they needed to do was grab it. As we had seen so often in this group though, things were tight in the opening half of football. A draw would not really help either team in their quest so the onus was there to find a winner.

There was to be a winner and the breakthrough goal came from Celtic's Bastien Morel. He scored not only once but twice to seal a 2-0 victory for his team with his 3 rd and 4 th strikes of the day. Budapest Celtic Panthers had got the result they needed with the win had qualified for the Plate.

A Boro Fiuk had been looking to qualify for the Cup but they were now looking over their shoulders at FC Maroon to avoid slipping into the Trophy.

The final game of Group B was originally to be the first until the reschedule – it was FC Maroon versus Csabagyongye. With the results above Csabagyongye only needed a point to claim Group B and could even with it with a loss (as long it was just by one goal). FC Maroon could rise to 4 th with a win and qualify for the Plate – a draw/defeat would mean 5 th place and the Trophy.

There is some history between the two sides as FC Maroon's sister club FC Dad met Csabagyongye in the opening game of the 2013 Lisbon Tournament. On that occasion, FC Dad were victorious 2-1……FC Maroon must have been desperate to at least match that and claim bragging rights as well as the context of today's game.

It was an ominous start for FC Maroon as Andris Nemesi put Csabagyongye into a first half lead and the Hungarians looked well on their way to the Group B title. FC Maroon were not to be defeated though as Hertej Rattan hit back after the break to make it 1-1….game on.

FC Maroon could not claim the winning goal they needed and so would qualify for the Trophy. The draw meant Csabagyongye won Group B by a point – a fine effort and their best performance in a eurofootballfives.com Group phase since the 2011 Budapest Fives.
