Round 2 started with Skidmarks versus RS Ocean Village FC. Skidmarks made the perfect start and were looking to make it two wins out of two. Their opponents were looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat in their opening fixture.

Skidmarks lead 2-0 at half-time in Round 1 and they did so again in Round 2. In their previous game they extended their lead to 3-0 before the full-time whistle and it was déjà vu as this is exactly what they did here. The goalscorers on this occasion though were Iain Congdon (2) and Stephen Daly. The two times eurofootballfives.com champions were looking in formidable form.

For RS Ocean Village FC it was a second defeat although there is no shame in coming second best to Skidmarks – many others have been in that position.

 
 
 

Meglepetes were up next as they took on Contejus Hurricanes. Both teams had tasted opening game defeat and would look to take the opportunity to register their first points of the day and hopefully their first win.

On paper this was a fairly evenly matched encounter as we had two previous Plate winners – Meglepetes here in the 2013 Budapest Fives and Contejus Hurricanes a year before in the 2012 Algarve Open. On the pitch the teams proved as evenly matched as we reached half-time all square at 0-0.

The game would not end without a goal though. There was to be just the one goal to decide the destination of the points and it was Peter Guzy who struck the winning blow.

 
 
 

To complete Round 2 we had Budapest Celtic Lions versus Bozeat FC. We had two teams who had enjoyed opening game victories and were looking to continue their great start to the competition. The winners could go joint top with Skidmarks if they were able to take all 3 points.

Budapest Celtic Lions took the early initiative as Kantor Barnabas scored for the second successive game. Bozeat FC were not to be beaten though as Danny Bayes equalized after the break. The game finished with the honours shared at 1-1.

The two teams remained unbeaten at the start of the tournament and their reward was 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
