Breckland FC (Eng)

Breckland FC were next in action and they had a tough fixture to look forward to against A Boro Fiuk. Breckland FC had yet to score in the tournament and were facing a team who had only conceded one today (and that should have been disallowed). Reward for Breckland if they could get their first win was jumping up to 5th position and a hope for Plate qualification.

A Boro Fiuk were looking higher up the table – a win for them and they would go top. Things got off to a slow and steady start (as was par for the course in this evenly matched Group) and we were all level at half-time, 0-0.

Goals were worth their weight in gold in Group B and it was Chris Dobson of A Boro Fiuk who cashed in with the only goal of the game in the second period. It was heartbreak again for Breckland FC who had worked so hard for no reward.

A Boro Fiuk had earned their second win in a row and found themselves at the summit of Group B.

Csabagyongye had just seen A Boro Fiuk move 1 point ahead of them in the race for the Group B title. Csabagyongye did have two games in hand though and the first of those was now. Their opponents would be Budapest Celtic Panthers who were just 1 point behind Csabagyongye and 2 points behind A Boro Fiuk. The Panthers too could reach the top with a win.

An early goal in this one saw Peter Dovak give Csabagyongye a first half lead. It was a lead they were to maintain until half-time. If they could maintain this position they would be top again with a game in hand – they were emerging as the team to beat in Group B.

Could Budapest Celtic Panthers find a way back? It would be a tough task as Csabagyongye were yet to concede in the tournament. Try as they did, the Panthers were unable to become the first team to score against Csabagyongye. The game finished 1-0.

FC Maroon went into their fourth game unbeaten in two of their three games but struggling in 5th position. They would now play 6th placed team Breckland FC who were languishing in 6th place despite competing in all of their fixtures. There was some previous between the two clubs as Breckland FC had defeated FC Maroon's sister squad, FC Dad, 2-1 in the 2013 Lisbon Tournament. Could FC Maroon claim revenge for their friends. For Breckland FC this was a last chance for points in the group phase.

Things could not have started off any worse for Breckland FC as they lost their captain Ryan Pointer to injury and with no available subs would have to complete the game with four men. Those four men battled superbly to reach half-time at 0-0. In the second half though the pressure told and the deadlock was broken by James Alawi. You sensed that the points were decided and when Murat Haykir made it 2-0 it was game over.

The result meant Breckland FC would finish 6th and play in the Trophy competition. For FC Maroon, they rose to 5 points and had a very good shout at making the Plate and an outside shot at reaching the Cup.
