In
the next game we had two teams looking for their
first victory of the day. Johnsbridge FC had
made a solid start despite defeat in their opening
fixture. They would hope for another good performance
if not the same result. Stanford FC by their
own admission had struggled in their first game
– could they put this right in Round 2?
They
were certainly improved and the English teams
engaged in a pretty even contest. The first-half
came and went with no goals as the teams reached
the break level.
Whilst
a draw would obviously be better than a defeat
a return of 1 point from a possible 6 would
not be what the doctor ordered and both teams
looked to turn 1 point into 3. The deadlock
was eventually broken by Daniel Goodwin and
it proved to be the only goal of the game. His
strike earned Johnsbridge FC all 3 points and
their first win of the day. Stanford FC slipped
to defeat but were improving.
