Welcome to Budapest and welcome to the 4 th annual Budapest Fives 5-a-side football tournament. With 24-teams assembled to do battle from Argentina, Belarus, England, France and Hungary this was our largest event in Hungary to date.

First up in Group A was Budapest Celtic Pumas (Hun) versus Cava Sundays (Eng). The Hungarian team entered the eurofootballfives.com fold in 2011 on home soil with two squads – the most successful of their teams (the “Tigers” squad) lost on penalties in the Cup Final. They made a bid for glory at the 2012 Barcelona Fives and 2012 Budapest Fives. In Barcelona they had 2 teams reach the Cup Semi-Finals but both the Lions and Pumas squads missed out on the Final on penalties and Golden Goal respectively. In Budapest 2012 they came very close again with the Tigers squad getting to the Cup Final but again settling for Runners-Up medals as Romania's ABC United took the winning trophy. The 2013 Budapest Fives wasn't too successful with all 3 of their teams crashing out in the QFs (1 Plate, 2 Cup) but success wasn't too far away as they claimed their maiden title in the 2013 Krakow Trophy!

Their opponents Cava Sundays were on debut who acquitted themselves well on their first European start. They reached half-time all square at 0-0 to give themselves a platform. It was a close encounter and in the end just one goal would decide it. That goal came from Akos Varga and handed all three points to Budapest Celtic Pumas.

Next up was The A Team of France versus England's Stanford FC. The A Team were visit Budapest from Paris making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance after a debut in the 2013 Krakow Trophy. They were on course for victory leading the Cup Final 1-0 before Budapest Celtic came back to win 2-1. Could they go one better in Budapest? They feature a very experienced player in Fateh Bekhouche who was a member of the Grant Thornton squad who won the 2013 Mallorca Fives (beating Skidmarks in the Final). They also feature Randy Tchutio the 2013 Krakow Trophy top goalscorer with 14 goals.

Stanford FC made their debut as recently as October 2013 in the Barcelona Fives. They made an impressive debut finishing second in their group and narrowly missing out on Cup qualification. They went through to the Plate where Alphasights dismissed them 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals.

The French team got off to a flyer as Stanford FC struggled with their hangovers. Dydynho grabbed a hat-trick and Chris Mb also got on the scoresheet in a comprehensive 4-0 win.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A was Johnsbridge FC (making their debut) versus CIS Committee (Blr). In the 2011 Prague Masters CIS Committee became the first team from Belarus to compete in eurofootballfives.com competition. They showed sensational form in the group phase winning their first four games before finishing with a draw as they won Group B. They were then surprisingly defeated in the Cup Quarter Finals via Golden Goal 2-1 to Dark Horses. It is great to see CIS back in action this year in Budapest.

Johnsbridge FC were on debut and it would certainly be a tough start for them in European football. Their opponents were well organised but Johnsbridge FC were certainly able to compete on a level with CIS. Ultimately though it would be a losing cause for the English team as goals either side of the break from Vitali Ledenev and Aliaksandr Chaikouski sealed a 2-0 win.
