We were down to the final four teams in our Trophy competition – they were Leek High Boys, Ze'Argon, CBD Boys and P Slayers. England, France and Oman were all in with a chance of picking up winners medals.

If you read the write up of the fourth Trophy Quarter-Final you will have seen that we ranked all 8 teams in the Trophy based upon their finish in the group phase. This match would see the teams ranked 1st and 3rd come head to head. Leek High Boys had the highest points haul with 11, Ze'Argon secured a more than respectable 9.

Leek High Boys would no doubt be the favourites for this. They had only lost one game on the pitch (4-2 to Spider Mans & Eagle) with the other defeat a walkover conceded due to late arrival. Ze'Argon in comparison had 4 defeats so far.

The early exchanges saw Leek High Boys go 1-0 up with Tommy Coates scoring his 10 th of the tournament. At this stage he was the second top scorer in the tournament level with Keiran Kendrick of FourInTina and one behind Edgaras Buzas of LT United.

Jean-Marie Anar then scored his third of the tournament. It levelled the game up at 1-1 and took the game into a penalty shoot-out. Leek High Boys had won their only previous penalty shoot-out in our tournaments, Ze'Argon had lost theirs.

Leek High Boys would take the first penalty and they scored it. Ze'Argon missed theirs and it was advantage to the English team. Leek High Boys then missed themselves and handed Ze'Argon a chance to level it up again. The French team could not take advantage though. Leek High Boys did not need another invitation and sealed the shoot-out win, 2-0.

So, who would meet Leek High Boys in the Trophy Final? Would it be CBD Boys or P Slayers?

CBD Boys came into the game in good form. They had suffered a slow start but picked up 7 points from the last available 12 in Group A and then a good 2-0 win over CAP FC in the Quarter-Finals. P Slayers had been the opposite with a fast start and results tailing off. In the Quarter-Finals the were back to winning ways (2-1 v Tysers) and were now one game away from a first European final.

CBD Boys upturn in form had seemed to coincide with a much improved defensive display. They had now kept two clean sheets in a row thanks to their Spanish goalkeeper David Garcia Gallego. He was making his 11 th appearance in the Barcelona Fives after 10 appearances for Rapid Bosco Navas and now 1 for CBD Boys.

David Garcia Gallego's form was influential here too. As Bobby Moore once said, “If you don't concede any goals you'll win more games than you lose.” David Garcia Gallego was to keep a third successive clean sheet which would give them a penalty shoot-out at least. At the other end, CBD Boys had two men in form. Rubik Menezes and Daley Mathias both had 5 goals each. Daley Mathias moved on to 6 for the tournament and his goal would send CBD Boys through to the final.

It was all over for P Slayers for this year. They have hinted they will return to eurofootballfives.com action next year for another crack at success. We thank them for their continued support of our tournaments and look forward to meeting them all again in whichever destination they choose.
