There were two games left for each team to finish as high up in the Group D table as possible. Deportivo 2.0 were well placed in third position just a point behind the top 2 teams. They had two wins in a row and faced the team at the foot of the table.

Their opponents would be Wonder Vision. They were struggling at the moment with 2 draws and 3 defeats thus far. As things stood they would be eliminated but they were only three points from sixth position and qualification for the Trophy competition.

It is often said “there are no easy games in football” which is of course often not true and in our tournaments some teams at the foot of the table do genuinely struggle. However, Wonder Vision had been competitive throughout and only conceded 6 goals in 5 games and earned a draw with the defending champions. We think the “there are no easy games in football” statement was applicable in this scenario and Deportivo 2.0 could not take anything for granted.

As it was, Deportivo 2.0 picked up their biggest win of the day and maybe not getting reward for their efforts was taking its toll on Wonder Vision. Patrick O'Brien was back amongst the goals. After scoring in the first four games he missed out in Round 5 but now took his tally to six for the tournaments. It also meant in his three appearances at the Barcelona Fives he had scored 6 or more in each event.

Kevin Shine scored his first goal of the day in the previous match and he added two more here to seal a 3-0 victory for his Deportivo 2.0 team.

The next game in Group D was Club Esportiu Llefia versus FourInTina as Spain met Wales. It was becoming crunch time for these two teams with just one further game to come after this one. Club Esportiu Llefia were struggling today compared to previous performances. They won the Cup in 2015 and the Plate in 2016 but were currently outside of the qualification places. If they were to qualify then the Trophy looked to be their most realistic option. No-one in our tournaments has ever won a Cup, a Plate and a Trophy.

FourInTina returned to winning ways in Round 5 and were currently just one point off top and sat in fourth place. A win here would do them wonders in staking a place for the Cup. They would be the first Welsh team to qualify for the Cup if they could pull it off.

It started well for FourInTina as Keiran Kendrick put them 1-0 ahead. Daniel Martin Montes's third goal of the tournament then equalized for Club Esportiu Llefia. Keiran Kendrick became a two goal hero though and his second put FourInTina 2-1 ahead which is how the game finished. It was a crucial win for the Welsh team.

The game on Pitch C was Elcombe Old Boys versus Fail Madrid 1.

Elcombe Old Boys were finding their rhythm with 3 consecutive wins. There was shades of last season where they won their final four group games, scoring 9 and without conceding to go into the Cup on a high. With two games to go, given how close Group D was, they still had work to do and had to keep their run going. There was no opportunity to take their foot off the gas.

Fail Madrid currently sat in 6th position and were 5 points off their opponents. A win would give them a chance of making the Cup going into the final round of games. In the proverbial “Group of Death” qualifying for any of the knock-out competitions would be an achievement.

With the action underway, Marcus Faure scored his second goal in as many games as Elcombe Old Boys lead 1-0. Elcombe Old Boys had a famed defence that once kept 8 clean sheets in a row in the Barcelona Fives. It was a run that stretched from the Trophy QF of the 2014 tournament right through to, and including, the Cup QF in 2015. That famed defence kept Fail Madrid out and so Elcombe Old Boys chalked up their fourth win in a row.

Andrew Gartshore was in goal for that run of 8 clean sheets. He also had a run of 6 consecutive clean sheets (Group C, Round 4 to Cup SF inclusive in 2016) and, with Elcombe Old Boys mving up through the gears, this felt it could be the start of another such run.

Despite the win, Elcombe Old Boys remained in second place. Despite the defeat, Fail Madrid remained in sixth.

We would finish Round 6 of Group D with P Slayers versus Danish Dynamites. P Slayers needed to arrest a little slump in form following a promising start. They began with 2 wins, 7 points from 9 but then two defeats in a row had seen them drop to fifth in the table.

Danish Dynamites had seen their form take the opposite trajectory. They had picked up 10 points from the last possible 12 on offer to lead Group D as we entered the final stages of the group phase.

A win for the Danish team would make them favourites to qualify for the Cup. Martin Frisch helped them on their way as he made it 1-0. Jens Bodker Knudsen continued his fine goal-scoring tournament as he added another to make it 2-0.

P Slayers had been struggling for goal of late with 1 in their last 3 games and they were shut out again here as the Danish team saw the game out and complete the 2-0 win.
