We were approaching the final stages of Group C and things were looking exciting at both the top and the bottom….and everywhere in between. The games and results were becoming increasingly important and no less so than T Bashers against Team Extreme.

For T Bashers this was last chance saloon. They had to win their final two games to have any hope of avoiding elimination. A draw or defeat would confirm they would not be able to progress from the group phase.

Team Extreme were in a three-horse race for the two Cup qualification places and they currently sat in second position. Just 1 point separated the top three teams who had won a combined 12 games from their 15 games. No-one could afford to slip up now at the business end of Group C.

To be fair to Team Extreme they never really looked like slipping up here. They had scored at least twice in every game so far and the goals continued to fly in here. Chika Kalu was the main man in this particular match with a hat-trick. He scored the first, second and fourth of the game. In between, Antonio Vernaschi was back on the goal run. He scored in the first four games, missed out in Round 5 but now took his tally to the day to 7. Final score, 4-0.

The penultimate game for Krakowcaine would be against Good Latitude. These were our two early pacesetters and at the end of Round 2 these teams shared the lead of Group C on 6 points. Since then their fortunes had diverged. Krakowcaine had continued their run of form as they lead the table with 4 wins and 1 draw. Good Latitude had picked up 1 draw and then 2 defeats as they slipped to fourth. They needed a result to arrest that slide and boy did they get it here!

We often say in these tournaments that momentum plays a big part. If you are winning games it can become a habit. If you are losing, even if playing well, then it is easy for heads to go down, get frustrated and for results to tail off. The momentum was certainly with Krakowcaine especially as they came into this game on the back of a 6-1 win.

Our “momentum” theory was proven to be a load of old rubbish though as Good Latitude upset the Swiss here. The English team completed a resounding 2-0 win which really shook up Group C.

The biggest blow was to Krakowcaine who slipped from first to third and their final group game would be against the new league leaders. The whole complexion of the tournament looked different for them. For Good Latitude, it kept them in the Plate places as the team behind them also won in Round 6.

Gintam (Spa) versus Tysers (Eng) was sixth versus seventh in terms of league placings at the start of Round 6. What was at stake for the two teams?

Gintam needed to win to ensure they would be playing in the knock-out phase this afternoon and at least the Trophy with a chance of making the Plate. A defeat would see Tysers move above Gintam and the Spanish have it all to do in the final round. A draw would force Tysers to win their final game but keep things in Gintam's hands.

Tysers came into the game on the back of their first win of the day and just at the right time. It kept their hopes of qualification alive and a second win in a row would make them odds on favourites to qualify. A defeat would not finish them off mathematically but make life very difficult.

Just one goal would decide this tie and it was Tysers who emerged on top. It was Lee Shaw with his first goal of the tournament to win it for the English.

The penultimate game for Fiorentina Turner 2 in the group phase would be against Ze'Argon. This game looked like it could be fairly straight-forward with the “home” team coming into the game with 4 successive wins behind them against the “away” team who had just been beaten 6-1.

The prize for Fiorentina Turner 2 was a place in the Cup qualification places going into the final round of games. We did not know if Fiorentina Turner 2 knew whilst they were playing but a defeat for Krakowcaine on Pitch B had opened up the door for the English team.

Fiorentina Turner 2 didn't just take advantage of the open door but they smashed it down. Tom Farrer scored his seventh and eighth goals of the tournament to put his team in charge at 2-0. Jack Davies and Ben Renshaw then weighed in with goal #3 and goal #4 to complete a superb win for Fiorentina Turner 2.

Fiorentina Turner 2 were up to second and you had to fancy them to qualify for the Cup on this form. The result for Ze'Argon meant they were clinging on to sixth position and a place in the Trophy.
