We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we would shortly see eight teams reduced to four teams. To begin it was Sigurdsson's Advice Bureau versus Fiorentina Turner 1. It was 3rd placed in Group A versus 4th Placed in Group B and as such you would imagine Sigurdsson's Advice Bureau would be the favourites given the higher league placing.

However, there was a good case to make Fiorentina Turner 1 favourites as they had the superior record of the two teams in the group phase. They finished with 15 points compared to their opponent's 12. They had also scored more (16 compared to Sigurdsson's 12) and conceded less (6 compared to Sigurdsson's 10).

The game went with the team who had the better stats as Fiorentina Turner 1 turned on the style. Harry Boys put them 1-0 up and then 2-0 up. Matt Hanson then scored his third of the tournament to make it 3-0. Harry Boys then scored his third of the game to complete his hat-trick. It was his second hat-trick of the tournament!

Sadly, it was the end of the day for Sigurdsson's Advice Bureau – it was great to see them join the eurofootballfives.com party and a welcome addition to our tournaments. It was also good to see them at the social to catch up on the days events.

The second Quarter-Final saw FourInTina take on Good Latitude. If we were to rank the 8 teams in the Plate competition based upon their points tally and separating those on equal points by goal difference the teams would rank like this:

  1. LT United
  2. Fiorentina Turner 1
  3. FourInTina
  4. Krakowcaine
  5. Good Latitude
  6. Deportivo 2.0
  7. Sigurdsson's Advice Bureau
  8. Fylingdales FC

These were two teams that had enjoyed a really good debut in our tournaments. FourInTina were one of three teams to qualify for the Plate with 15 points and one of three teams who could consider themselves unlucky that this wasn't enough to qualify for the Cup. Good Latitude had 13 points (4 wins, 1 draw) from their 7 group games.

There was little to choose between the two teams in normal time and the game ultimately finished 1-1. Ellis Wood had given FourInTina the lead with his fifth of the tournament. Enrqiue Martinez had equalized with his sixth of the tournament to take this game into a penalty shoot-out.

The shoot-out was one of epic proportions – we had 12 successful penalties before the 7th round of spot kicks would prove decisive. Jack Hunt made the crucial save for his team and some of FourInTina were celebrating before realizing they still had a penalty to take in order to win it. Keiran Kendrick stepped up to take the potentially decisive penalty and he put it away with aplomb.

Farewell to Good Latitude – it was a great debut and we shall see you at the 2018 Lisbon Tournament next year!

We now knew the teams to compete in the first Semi-Final. In the lower half of the Quarter-Final draw it was Krakowcaine versus Deportivo 2.0. Krakowcaine were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance and would be making their first appearance in the Plate competition having reached the Cup Semi-Finals at the 2017 Krakow Trophy.

Deportivo 2.0 were the Plate winners here in 2013. If they could go all the way, they would join this list of multiple Plate winners:

4 - CSF (2008 Krakow Trophy, 2009 Algarve Open as CSF Porto, 2009 Amsterdam Fives, 2009 Valenica Fives as CSF)

3 - New Milton Eagles (Eagles OB 2010 Krakow Trophy, Eagles UnAthletic 2011 Algarve Open, Eagles 3:36 2014 Mallorca Veterans Tournament)

3 - GBS Reds (2010 Prague Trophy, 2012 Berlin Fives, 2016 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament)

2 - Rigford Seahawks (2009 Prague Trophy, 2011 Amsterdam Fives)

2 – Slavoj Consumer – (2012 & 2013 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament)

2 – St Paul's College OB (2014 Amsterdam Fives, 2015 Bratislava Fives)

2 – Naranjitos – (2014 Barcelona Fives, 2015 Budapest Fives)

2 – Frank Hirth – (2015 Lisbon Tournament, 2016 Prague Tournament)

2 – Seleccion Balear/Inter Balear – (2015 & 2017 Mallorca Tournament)

On the field here we had a cracker of a game. Krakowcaine took the lead through Abdelkader Maroe's third of the tournament. Kevin Shine equalized for Deportivo 2.0 and then put the Irish team ahead at 2-1. He took his tally to the tournament to 5 goals.

It was ominous for Krakowcaine at this stage but they hit back to make it 2-2 thanks to Nacho Mochales. The game was set-up for someone to make a name for themselves and grab a winner. That man was Eloy Rubio with goal #8 of the tournament for himself personally. It was a goal that won the game and sent Krakowcaine through, 3-2 final score.

We'd like to thank Deportivo 2.0 for making the trip to Barcelona for the third time. We hope you all enjoyed your tour weekend.

The final Quarter-Final saw LT United take on Fylingdales FC. If you have a look above you will see that we ranked all 8 teams in the Plate competition in order – this Quarter-Final would see the top ranked team versus the eighth ranked team. As a result, LT United were red hot favourites.

There was only three points between the two teams in the group phase but if you look at the goal difference you will see LT United held a big advantage. They were +14 for the day compared to -2 for Fylingdales FC. LT United were the joint third highest scorers of all 32 teams in the tournament as they scored 18 goals in the group phase. They also had the joint second best defence of all 32 teams in the group phase with just four conceded.

This showed what a massive task Fylingdales FC were facing. The English team put up a pretty good challenge but the Lithuanian team were just too good. In many of our other tournaments LT United would have qualified for the Cup with their performances today.

Edgaras Buzas was the main man in this game as he took his tally to double figures for the day. He scored his 10th and 11th goals of the tournament as he now topped the goal-scoring charts. A clean sheet for Tomas Urbonavicius at the other end ensured LT United would go through, 2-0.

It was the final game of the day for Fylingdales FC but there was certainly no disgrace in going out to such a high quality team.
