The first set of fixtures had been completed so it was quickly on to Round 2. The opening game of the round saw Fail Madrid 2 taking on Fiorentina Turner 1.

We are delighted to welcome back Fail Madrid to eurofootballfives.com action after they made a debut in 2015. They travelled to the Berlin Fives where they finished 5th in their group and were unlucky to do so with a goal difference of just -3 so they were competitive throughout. They qualified for the Plate and picked up a 1-0 win over Coverton Road before a 1-1 draw with Tommie's Guns in the Semi-Finals. Their tournament ended here though after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out defeat.

Their next eurofootballfives.com adventure took them to the 2016 Riga Tournament. They started off with a 3-2 win over Latvian team Aliance before defeat to eventual champions L'Albiceleste. They then finished the group with 3 draws in a row which slowed their progress up the table. A fourth place finish earned them a berth in the Plate competition. In the Quarter-Finals, a fourth draw in a row against Zemniecki meant penalties would decide their fate. The Latvian side won 2-1 on spot-kicks and Fail Madrid were out.

For the first time, Fail Madrid entered two squads and this was their second squad. Both they and Fiorentina Turner were looking to bounce back immediately from defeats in the first round. Both teams had been handed difficult openers with Fail Madrid losing to Naranjitos (3-0) and Fiorentina Turner 1 losing to LT United (3-1).

Here on Pitch A it was Fiorentina Turner 1 who wrestled the initial ascendency with Matt Hanson getting his name on the scoresheet to give. He had his name on the scoresheet not once but twice as his second goal of the game earned all three points for his team. A clean sheet at the other end meant a job well done!

Prospe FC had been a no-show for their first game and had conceded a 3-0 walkover. We made considerable efforts to get in touch with the team but to no avail. It appeared they would not be appearing so every team that were due to meet Prospe FC would now get a 3-0 win. It was the turn of LT United to collect their 3 points in Round 2.

On Pitch C we had a first game loser hosting a first game winner as CAP FC met Naranjitos. When you have lost your first game as CAP FC had then the last thing you needed was to run into a team unbeaten in 10 group fixtures in Barcelona and winning 9 of those 10. Here's Naranjitos' full record in our tournaments:

Naranjitos entered the eurofootballfives.com fold at the 2014 Valencia Fives. They started off slowly with a 3-2 defeat before bouncing back with 7-1 and 4-2 wins before a 2-2 draw saw them finish 3rd . They qualified for the Cup as one of the best 3rd placed teams but went out at the Quarter-Final stage, 5-3, to the eventual winners – Sparta. At the 2014 Barcelona Fives and the 2015 Budapest Fives there was success for Naranjitos as they won the Plate competition at both events.

They made the journey from Valencia again to compete in the 2015 Barcelona Fives and look for a hat-trick of victories. They finished second in Group A with a haul of 7 points and qualified for the Plate. They drew 2-2 with compatriots Drunk Perfect but a 3-2 penalty shoot-out defeat saw them exit the tournament. In 2016, Naranjitos made a third successive Barcelona Fives appearance. It was their best performance in the group phase of one of our tournaments as they won all 7 games scoring 21 goals and conceding just 3 along the way. They were ranked #1 of 32 teams as we entered the knock-out phase but in the Cup Quarter-Final they lost 1-0 to The Spice Boys.

Earlier this year Naranjitos travelled to Amsterdam and drew a particularly tough group. They finished fourth out of 6 teams with 1 win, 2 draws and 2 defeats to their name. They qualified for the Plate and would have been confident of a third Plate win after crushing Sutton On Tour, 7-2. They then drew 0-0 with German side SC Sylt so the game went to penalties. We all know what happens when you play the Germans at football! Naranjitos went out 3-2 in the shoot-out.

Naranjitos were on the victory trail again here as David Moya Aparicio and Juan Jose Garcia helped them to a 2-0 win.

To complete Round 2 we had Galacticos FC versus Argon'ze on Pitch D. Both teams had picked up good wins in the opening round and so a second victory here would see the victor have a joint share of the lead at the summit of Group B. For Argon'ze though it was their first taste of action on the field though as their win had been via a walkover.

Both teams had competed here in Barcelona before. Galacticos all the way back at the 2009 Barca Fives. Argon'ze were here last year. Back in 2009, Galacticos were hugely impressive in winning Group A. They demolished Metropolitan (Spa) 9-3 before beating FC Radbroke (Eng) 3-1 (FC Radbroke have since claimed 3 x eurofootballfives.com titles) and DHL Prague Blue (Cze) 2-1. In the Quarter-Finals they defeated the then defending champions (Rapid Bosco Navas) 1-0 before bowing out 4-0 to Goldsmith Williams (who won 2 x eurofootballfives.com titles).

Argon'ze's campaign last year was stunted with two early draws. They then suffered three defeats before ending on a high with two successive wins to finish 5th in their 8 team group. They qualified for the Trophy where Bolivar (Spa) accounted for them, 4-1.

Here it was Galacticos who were dominant. They never looked back from the moment Adam Patel put them 1-0 up. It was Adam Patel again who made it 2-0. Asif Sheikh grabbed his first of the tournament before Zuber Bulbulia rounded off a fine 4-0 win.

Galacticos were off to a flyer in Group B and were our joint leaders with Naranjitos and LT United.
