So,
onto the on-field games of Round 7 we go and the
last attempts for the teams to stake their claim
for the title, Cup, Plate or Trophy qualification.
The games would kick-off more or less simultaneously
so teams just had to concentrate on their own
games and hope other results would be decided
in their favour (if required).
On
Pitch B we had Deportivo Dooradoyle versus CBD
Boys as Ireland met Oman. These two teams would
finish sixth and seventh but we did not yet know
in which order. What was at stake was a place
in the Trophy for the team that could finish sixth,
elimination faced the team who would finish seventh.
Deportivo
Dooradyle had won the Trophy competition back
at the 2013 Barcelona Fives. If they could get
through and go on and win the Trophy then they
would be only the second team in our history to
win 2 Trophy competitions at our tournaments.
CBD
Boys would ensure the Irish lads never got that
chance in the knock-out phase. The boys (“Boys”)
from Oman saved their best performance for last
as they kept their first clean sheet of the day
and also rattled in four goals at the same time.
Daley Mathias and Rubik Menezes had been their
sharp shooters so far and they were to be again
with two goals each here. The final score was
Deportivo Dooradoyle 0-4 CBD Boys. CBD Boys were
through to the Trophy.
It
was farewell to Deportivo Dooradoyle. Their squad
suffered from injuries today so they were not
at full throttle. They still had interest in the
tournament though with their Deportivo 2.0 squad
(see Group D).
