LT United (Ltu)

The second final of the day would see Fiorentina Turner 1 versus LT United. With nine games of football already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

When we ranked the 8 teams who qualified for the Plate in order, LT United and Fiorentina Turner 1 were in first and second positions so it would be difficult to argue that we didn't have two worthy finalists.

The English team had actually built up a stronger record than their opponents over the tournament largely due to two big wins in this knock-out phase. Fiorentina Turner had won 7 of their 9 games. They had scored 24 goals at the expense of just 8. LT United had won 6 and drawn 1 of their 9 games. They had scored 22 goals and conceded 6. So the teams had identical goal differences over the course of the tournament.

At 10.12 this morning these two teams played at the start of Group B in their opening fixtures. LT United won the match 3-1 and a repeat of that would do them just fine.

Could Fiorentina Turner 1 turn the tables on their opponents and get revenge from that opening defeat. It all seemed a very long time ago now but the first goal in the Cup Final was always likely to prove crucial not only in pragmatic terms but also on a psychological level. If LT United got it you could forgive Fiorentina Turner 1 for thinking “here we go again” but if the English team were to get it then it would be a massive boost to their Plate title credentials.

When the first goal arrived it was to the Lithuanian team. Edgaras Buzas scored his twelfth of the tournament to put LT United on course for victory. It was an important goal for him personally as, with the other leading scorers now finished for the day, it would ensure Buzas would be our golden boot winner. Could Fiorentina Turner 1 come from behind? All 7 of their victories had come from when they'd hit the front. They did come from behind against Galacticos to equalize but then went on to lose the game.

This would be a big test for Fiorentina Turner 1 and it was a test that became more difficult when Mantas Bambalas made it 2-0 to LT United. As the English searched to get back into the game they fell further behind to Edgaras Buzas's second of the game.

There was a glimmer of hope when Matt Hanson's sixth of the tournament made it 3-1 but that glimmer was extinguished by Edgaras Buzas who completed his hat-trick. The cherry on the cake for LT United came from Karolis Vladicka who made it 5-1.

There was to be no further score and LT United had pulled off a superb victory. We offer our consolations to Fiorentina Turner on a fine campaign for both their ‘1' and ‘2' squads – it was a massively commendable debut and their first team should wear those medals with pride. If only they could have gone one match further and turned them into winner's medals.

The indvidiual honours of the day went to LT United's Edgaras Buzas. His total of 14 goals saw him become the top goalscorer by 3 clear goals. It was the most goals at the Barcelona Fives since Argentine Luiz Naufel scored 15 for Budapest Celtic Pumas at the 2012 edition of the tournament.

We offer huge congratulations to our 2017 Barcelona Fives Plate winners – LT United.
