Round 2 started with P Slayers versus Wonder Vision. Both teams had started off against previous champions and both had done pretty well. P Slayers started off with a 2-1 win over the 2015 champions. Wonder Vision began with a 0-0 draw against the 2016 winners.

As we noted in Round 1, P Slayers derived from the team that played as Yac Club at the 2016 Riga Tournament. Their 7 man starting squad today featured 4 of the players from the Riga campain. In Latvia they were drawn in a tough group but enjoyed a good start with a 1-0 win over FC Maroon. They then suffered a 2-1 setback to Zemniecki but bounced back with a 6-1 win over The Crazy Gang. Defeats followed to FK Prienai (Ltu) and Melee FC (Eng) but they had done enough to finish fourth and qualify for the Plate. Unfortunately for them they could not change their mini run of form in the next phase as they went out to DHFC (who went on to win the Plate).

P Slayers were looking to build on that opening victory today and made a good start as Nick Pocock opened his personal account. 1-0 became 2-0 as Tom Rivers converted to double the lead.

There was no way back for Wonder Vision who slipped to their first defeat of the day but there was plenty of time for them to make their mark in Group D.

Round 2 continued with the match on Pitch B which was Danish Dynamites versus Elcombe Old Boys.

We mentioned earlier that this was Elcombe Old Boys fifth Barcelona Fives in a row but this was their 7th eurofootballfives.com tournament in total. They made a successful debut in the 2010 Algarve Open as Vodafone FC where they were drawn in the Group of Death and progressed to the final of the Plate competition. They emerged as worthy winners after a 3-2 victory. In the 2012 Mallorca Tournament, they entered two teams as Vodafone Rangers and Elcombe Old Boys. The latter finished 4th in their 6 team group and played in the Plate competition but were unable to emulate 2010 glory as they went down 2-0 in the Semi-Finals.

2013 started their Barcelona Fives adventure and was their best performance so far where they topped their group with a 100% record. They won their Cup QF on penalties against Spain's ADP Allstars before a 3-1 loss in the Semi-Finals to the eventual winners, Los Swallacticos. The 2014 Barcelona Fives wasn't quite as successful as 3 draws in 4 games stunted their group progress which meant they qualified for the Trophy. From there they swept to glory with a 5-0 Quarter-Final win, 2-0 Semi-Final win and another 5-0 win over German side SV Zoo in the Final.

They were back on Cup form at the 2015 Barcelona Fives winning Group D with a 100% record. In the knock-out phase they beat Rapid Bosco Navas in the Quarter-Final before a 1-1 draw in the Semi-Final against Ireland's Alabama Hotpockets. The game went to penalties and Elcombe Old Boys missed out 3-2 in the shoot-out. 2016 then saw them victorious and become champions.

They had started off with a draw in Round 1 but were on the victory trail again when Matt Hall put the English team 1-0 up. Danish Dynamites then turned the tables on their opponents as they equalized through Jens Bodker Knudsen. It got even better for the Danes when Martin Frisch scored the winner. Final score, 2-1.

Game 7 of 28 in Group D was to be Fail Madrid 1 (Eng) versus Club Esportiu Llefia (Spa).

Club Esportiu Llefia made their debut at the 2015 Barcelona Fives and it was quite a debut. They emerged from Group B as winners with 2 wins and 2 draws. They then embarked on a winning run to glory with a 3-2 Quarter-Final win over Walthamstow Warriors. A 4-0 Semi-Final win over North London in the Semi-Finals meant they would meet the Alabama Hotpockets in the Cup Final. It was a sensational performance in the Final that saw them run out 5-0 winners with a particularly strong second half. They also boasted the tournament's top goalscorer as Alfred Jimenez De Andres scored 9 in 7 games.

They looked to defend their title in 2016 but could only finish third in their group of 8 teams. They secured 4 wins and 1 draw but 2 defeats meant they missed out on the Cup and went through to the Plate. They showed they meant business by beating Bruton Black Cats 7-0 in the Quarter-Finals and John Laing 2-0 in the Semi-Finals. They then defeated Leek High Boys 2-0 as they won the Plate. They became the 7 th team in our history to win a Cup and a Plate title. Alfred Jimenez De Andres was the top goalscorer again as he scored 12 in 10 games.

It was first blood to the English team here in 2017 as Ollie Begbie put Fail Madrid 1 a goal up. Club Esportiu Llefia had started off with defeat so could ill afford another loss if they wanted to regain their title. Alfred Jimenez De Andres made it 2 goals in 2 games as he equalized for the Spanish.

Club Esportiu Llefia lost from a winning position in Round 1. Here, it was the reverse as they came from behind to lead thanks to Daniel Martin Montes making it 2-1. However, it would not be enough to earn victory. Fair play to Fail Madrid 1 as they hit back to equalize with Graham Hargreaves on target to make it 2-2.

To complete Round 2 we had FourInTina versus Deportivo 2.0. Both teams came into the game on the back of opening victories. FourInTina defeated Fail Madrid 1 convincingly (4-1) whilst Deportio 2.0 put in a good performance to see off the Danish Dynamites (2-0). A second win here would give the victor a share of the lead at the top of Group D.

Deportivo 2.0 are from the Deportivo Dooradoyle stable. Generally, when numbers have been high, they have been the second team but the stronger of the two Deportivo teams. Deportivo Dooradoyle made their debut at the 2011 Amsterdam Fives. They reached the Plate Quarter-Finals with success over Goals Aloud (Wal). In the Semi-Finals they were victorious 3-1 over CEPL of Holland (who'd later become 2012 Amsterdam Fives winners) before a narrow defeat in the final to Rigford Seahawks (also 2009 Krakow Trophy & 2012 Berlin Fives Cup winners and 2009 Prague Trophy Plate winners). In the 2012 Algarve Open they drew a tough group and finished 4 th to make the Plate again. Their day ended against French side CFC B at the Quarter-Final stage on this occasion.

In 2013, Barcelona was their destination of choice where they had a very successful day – they entered two teams and won both the Plate and Trophy competitions. Berlin was the destination of choice for 2014 and it was almost more success as they reached the Plate Final again. A tough fought 0-0 draw lead to a penalty shoot-out and Scandittack FC of Germany won the shoot-out 2-0. They have already competed this year at the 2015 Algarve Open where two injury ravaged squads finished 5 th and 6 th in their groups before a Wooden Spoon win and a Plate Quarter-Finals defeat.

At the 2015 Barcelona Fives, they looked to repeat their Barcelona success of 2013 when they competed as Depo Legends (Ire) and The Alabama Hotpockets (Ire). Depo Legends won two and lost two to finish third in Group D and qualify for the Plate. They defeated Saladmode FC 2-1 in the Quarter-Finals before their day was ended (1-0) by Hardly Athletic. The Alabama Hotpockets were sensational in the group phase with 3 wins and 1 draw to top Group C with 10 points. In the Cup, they defeated Freshers FC (2-1) and then drew with Elcombe Old Boys 1-1. They won 3-2 on penalties against the team who would be champions 12 months later. The Alabama Hotpockets just ran out of steam against Club Esportiu Llefia when they went down 5-0 in the Cup Final.

As you can see, a rich and extensive history in our tournaments but that counted for absolutely nothing as FourInTina established a 2-0 lead at the start of the tournament. Keiran Kendrick and Ellis Wood both scored in the opening game for the Welsh team and both were on target again here.

Deportivo 2.0 also scored for the second game in a row as he pulled one back to make it 2-1 but time was against the Irish team. FourInTina had done enough to take all 3 points and make it 2 wins out of 2.
