The first ever Trophy Final in eurofootballfives.com history would be contested by FC Cobaltslautern and Hertha Beerlin. Who could emerge victorious as the inaugural winners of this brand new competition within our tournaments?

Perhaps it was fitting that FC Cobaltslautern were there having been so proficient in the Plate competitions with 5 Finals under their belts and an 80% success rate in them. In tournament #10, they made it Final #6 and would represent formidable opposition for Hertha Beerlin making their first Final.

The first half came and went with no score and as the second half went on it looked increasingly like one goal was going to win this so when Ed Tollington stepped forward to put Hertha Beerlin 1-0 up with his first goal of the day it looked for all the world like that might be the winner. Just as we were discussing with the watching members of Energie Cobalt that runners-up medals were available then Thomas Mottram produced a moment of brilliance to score from an acute angle out wide into the side netting within the far post to make it 1-1.

That's how it finished and we went directly into penalties. Hertha Beerlin would shoot first and took the initiative 1-0. FC Cobaltslautern missed their first penalty and when Hertha went 2-0 up it looked again like they would go on and win it. FC Cobaltslautern did not seem to know when they were beaten and reduced arrears to 2-1, saved the 3 rd Hertha penalty before equalizing at 2-2. We were now in sudden death within the shoot-out and after 3 converted penalties each we had one scored and one missed…..it was Hertha Beerlin who had emerged victorious but they were certainly made to work for it.

Our commiserations go to FC Cobaltslautern who did indeed collect Runners Up medals and also, the CSF as a club, received a special award in the presentation ceremony for reaching the milestone of Overseas Tour #10. Well done to you and thank you for supporting our events over the last 6 years.
