After 80 games of football we came down to the most important of them all….game 81 – The 2012 Berlin Fives Cup Final.

The two teams lining up for the Final were Rigford Seahawks and Shrewsbury Townsend. The two teams remained unbeaten with Rigford Seahawks claiming 5 wins and 2 draws compared with Shrewsbury's 4 wins and 3 draws. One of those draws was between the two teams when they met in the Group phase with the game ending 0-0. This was surely a pointer to how close this Cup Final was expected to be.

The crowd had lined Pitch B for the Final in good numbers with over 100 people offering support to the two teams and they witnessed Shrewsbury Townsend taking the early initiative when Richard Deeming bagged his 8th goal of the tournament. The lead didn't last too long though as Dan Brayson found the perfect moment to double his tally for the day when he equalized. The teams finished the first half level at 1-1.

Into the second half and the stage was set for someone to write their names into the headlines of this Post-Tournament report by grabbing a winner and the title for their team. The man who took the opportunity was Rigford Seahawks' Tom Hallam whose goal proved to be the match and tournament winner.

It was pointed out to us that Hallam has an unbelievable record - he has scored in all 4 of the Finals Rigford Seahawks have played in. This is actually a eurofootballfives.com record surpassing that of Alex Woolston who scored in Olympic Phil Babb's first 3 eurofootballfives.com victories (their 4th victory came via penalties after a 0-0 draw).

Rigford Seahawks had become only the fifth team to win multiple Cup titles. The current roll call reads;

4 – Olympic Phil Babb: Amsterdam Fives (2008), Algarve Open (2009), Prague Masters (2010) and Budapest Fives (2011)

2 – Athletico Do Hollande: Algarve Open (2010 and 2011)

2 – Goldsmith Williams: Prague Masters (2008) and Amsterdam Fives (2010)

2 – Lozenetz City: Prague Masters (2009) and Manchester Fives (2010)

2 – Rigford Seahawks: Krakow Trophy (2009) and Berlin Fives (2012)

We offer our consolations to Shrewsbury Townsend who came very close to victory but our congratulations go to Rigford Seahawks – 2012 Berlin Fives Champions! We hope to see you all again at a tournament very soon.
