Two groups down, two to go as we turn our attentions to Group C. The first game saw Hertha Beerlin drawn against Shrewsbury Townsend. Hertha Beerlin (and their sister squad Bayer Never-Lose-Em) return to eurofootballfives.com action for their 3rd tournament (previously under the name El Studs Bilbao). They made a fine debut at the 2009 Prague Trophy when they finished top of their 6 team group (which also featured DHL Prague and GBS Reds) before a Cup Semi-Final exit. A return to action at the 2010 Krakow Trophy was less successful when DHL Prague Red knocked them out on penalties in the Plate Quarter Finals. They will be pleased to know they avoided DHL Prague in the Group C draw.

Shrewsbury Townsend made their debut in the 2011 Budapest Fives for sister squad FC Wein Schweine Fliegen captain Jack Croft's stag weekend. The pick of the squads there reached the Plate Final. Shrewsbury Townsend are captained by Jack Croft's brother – Joe Croft. Nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry to add some spice to the tournament! Could they meet in the latter stages of the tournament?

That was some way off, the match against Hertha Beerlin was here and now. We were treated to a very close and competitive match that failed to trouble the scorers and we finished all square at 0-0. A good solid opening point for each team.

Match 2 in Group C saw the first of two German teams in the group, Sturm Holzwurm, begin their campaign against English side East Compton Seagulls. Both sides were on debut so we have no history to draw on in order to preview the game. We've already seen the East Compton Eagles above in Group B qualify for the Cup in second place so on that basis we expected to East Compton Seagulls to be a competent side.

We ended the first half still searching for our first goal in Group C as neither team could find the back of the net. In the second half we finally saw the deadlock broken with what was to be the only goal of the game. The goalscorer was the Seagulls' captain Richard Manns who claimed all 3 points for his team, 1-0.

It was a great start for the Seagulls and disappointment for Sturm Holzwurm but plenty of time for them to get their campaign on course.

The last two teams to get underway were Rigford Seahawks versus Hasanheide Donkeys. Rigford Seahawks are a lways tough contenders and were making their 4 th eurofootballfives.com appearance when they took to the field in Berlin. They have good form having lifted the 2009 Krakow Trophy. Later that season in the Prague Trophy they missed out on the Cup by goal difference in their group but made the most of the setback by winning the Plate competition. In the 2011 Amsterdam Fives they were on the winning trail again as they picked up the Plate winners medals. You wouldn't bet against them picking up further medals this weekend.

The Donkeys were the second of the Hasanhaide Hotspur team to begin their quest for Berlin Fives glory. The Camels had paved the way by winning Group A and laid down the challenge to their Donkey counterparts (although the name is hardly flattering).

It was the Rigford Seahawks who got off to the perfect start in the tournament with a goal in each half and a clean sheet to boot as they won 2-0. Tom Hallam sent them on their way before Ben Kent sealed the deal and they quickly jumped to the top of Group C.
