Next
up was GBS Reds against FC Cobaltslautern. For
teams that were making their 8th and 10th tournament
appearances respectively it was maybe a surprise
that this was the first meeting between the
two teams and it was an important one. The Czechs
needed to get their campaign up and running
and the English needed to build on their opening
point – a win would do wonders for both teams
chances in Group B.
What
we got was a goal frenzy – five goals in the
first half alone and it was GBS Reds who bagged
the lions share to lead 4-1. The second half
followed a similar pattern and when the final
whistle blew it was 9-2.
The
main thorn in the CSF side for GBS Reds was
Wilco Weldhuizen who scored 5 whilst Achille
Anague scored for the second game running with
a hat-trick. Anis Ketab also found the net in
a highly proficient attacking display.
In
amongst all the madness Alex Thomas grabbed
2 goals to take his tally to 3 but it was a
heavy defeat for FC Cobaltslautern who were
now bottom of the table.
