We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we would shortly see eight teams reduced to four teams. The first two teams to do battle were FC Wein Schweine Fliegen and Stadtrankicker 08 as England met Germany.

FC Wein Schweine Fliegen would start favourites as they finished 3rd in their group but both teams came into this game on the back of a win in their final group fixture. The English team had proved more consistent over the course of the day and it was maybe no surprise that they opened the scoring in this one. Stadtrankicker 08 were proving a rejuvenated force and they were a competitive force in this game as captain Thomas Theel scored his second of the day.

It was FC Wein Schweine Fliegen who would progress though as Jonathan Wray scored his 7th of the day and they would continue their 2012 Berlin Fives campaign in the Plate Semi-Final. For this year at least, we would say a sad farewell to Stadtrandkicker 08.

The second Semi-Final saw East Compton Seagulls player Bayer Never Lose Em. We were a little surprised to see East Compton Seagulls in the Plate competition as we thought, based on their early form, they would qualify for the Cup but arguably they were drawn in the most competitive group, Group C. They would meet a Bayer Never Lose Em team who were on a run of Lose-Win-Lose-Win which they would need to stop to go further in this competition.

East Compton Seagulls had already played Bayer Never Lose Em's sister squad Hertha Beerlin and won 4-0 so a repeat of that would do them nicely. East Compton Seagulls started well and edged ahead 1-0 with Rob Graham's sixth goal of the day and it was a lead they would hold until half-time.

In the second half Bayer Never Lose Em battled hard to get back into it but were unable to find a way past Ian Dawes. East Compton Seagulls were also unable to extend their lead and so the game was on a knife edge throughout the second half. When the referee drew the game to a close it was East Compton Seagulls who were through. Bayer Never Lose Em were out and their brief was now a watching one to cheer on their sister Hertha Beerlin squad in the Trophy competition.

It was an all Czech encounter in the 3rd Quarter-Final as GBS Reds met DHL Prague Red for the 6th time in eurofootballfives competition. The history of the fixture reads;

2009 Prague Masters, Group: DHL Prague Red won 3-2.

2009 Prague Trophy, Group: GBS Reds won 3-0.

2010 Krakow Trophy, Plate QF: GBS Reds won 5-1.

2010 Prague Trophy, Group: DHL Red won 1-0.

2010 Prague Trophy, Plate Final: GBS Reds won 1-0.

As you can see GBS Reds have had the better of the fixtures in the past but it has been close and when they've met in the Plate competition it has been 2 wins out of 2 for GBS Reds.

The first goal in this game suggested it was going to go the way of GBS Reds again when Achille Anague put his team 1-0 up at the break. When Anis Ketab made it 2-0 DHL Prague Red were really up against it. Marco Lepee-Rivero's goal for 3-0 secured the result and it was another success for GBS Reds who led 4-2 in games overall and 3-0 in the knock-out stages.

It was game up for DHL Prague Red who still had their DHL Prague White team to play in the Cup to look forward to.

The final Quarter-Final was England's JJ's versus the Germany's Hasanheide Donkeys. With Stadtrandkicker 08 already defeated the Donkeys were the home nation's last hope in the Plate competition. JJ's had seen all the 3rd placed teams defeat the 4th placed teams in the three previous Quarter-Finals and they would be hoping for a clean sweep to ensure safe passage to the Semi-Finals and set-up a tie against GBS Reds.

In the game itself there was very little to choose between the two teams and both defences and goalkeepers proved dominant and coped admirably with what their opponents' attach could throw at them. There was no score and with the full time result, 0-0, we headed into penalties.

An England versus Germany penalty shoot-out….only one result right? Wrong!

For once an English team emerged from a penalty shoot-out against German opposition with a win. It went all the way though and the final score on penalties was 5-4 but JJ's (resplendent in England kit too) were through. Hasanheide Donkeys were out.
