For the first time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. The first Trophy Quarter-Final would be contested by Horribly Hungover and FC Cobaltslautern.

Horribly Hungover had already entertained FC Cobaltslautern's sister squad (Energie Cobalt) in the group stage and we were witness to a thrilling 3-3 draw. Horribly Hungover had performed consistently throughout the day winning one, drawing two and the two they lost had both been only by the odd goal so we expected them to be strong. Of all the teams in the Trophy competition they boasted the highest points tally in the group with 5 so could be considered favourites to win this section of the tournament.

They played a wonderfully inconsistent FC Cobaltslautern who had no problem scoring goals but had struggled to keep the door shut at the back and their games averaged over 6 goals – more of the same please.

It was FC Cobaltslautern who struck first when Chris Tuck bagfed his first goal of the day and they led 1-0 at the break. Wayne Minney hit back for 1-1 but then FC Cobaltslautern stepped up a gear as Alex Thomas made it 2-1, Tuck found the net again for 3-1 before Ross Bowman (4-1) and Alex Thomas (5-1) scored to book their place in the Semi-Finals.

It was sadly game over for Horribly Hungover who made their way to the “Fan Mile” at the Brandenburg Gate to watch Germany's opening Euro 2012 match against Portugal….not a bad way to spend a day!

The second Quarter-Final was a non-starter. The beauty of our tournament formats is that every team qualifies for a knock-out competition whether it be Cup, Plate or in this case Trophy so no matter what the standard of your team is, how good/poor a morning you may have had – every team has a chance of glory or silverware.

Unfortunately, we think Sturm Holzwurm didn't realize this as when the Trophy Quarter-Finals were due to kick off they had already left for the day. It was a pity but one team who probably didn't mind too much was Borussia Monchenhirschbach who earned a 3-0 walkover direct into the Semi-Finals.

Energie Cobalt had seen FC Cobaltslautern qualify for the Semi-Finals of the Trophy and were hoping to make it a CSF double with victory over Big Gay Al's SSF. As a pointer to form, Big Gay Al's SSF had played FC Cobaltslautern in Group B with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. FC Cobaltslautern were generally considered to be the stronger of the two CSF squads so you could make a case for Big Gay Al's SSF being favourites.

If that was the case they lived up to the billing as they stormed ahead and found a rich vein of form that had generally eluded them thus far. They swept to a 4-0 lead by the break and it was party football in the second half as the goals kept coming. Big Gay Al's SSF ran out 7-0 winners in the end with a hat-trick for Alan Hitchcock and plenty of other goals shared around including one for the stag – Alun Chorlton.

We sadly had to say farewell to Energie Cobalt but there was still CSF interest in this competition.

The final Quarter-Final was Big Gay Al's Not SSF against Hertha Beerlin. Should the former win they would set up a Big Gay Al derby of a Semi-Final which would surely be a sight to behold. Hertha Beerlin could spoil the party though in their quest for Trophy victory.

This was the closest of all the Quarter-Finals and it was Hertha Beerlin who poked their noses in front when Paul Taylor scored his first of the day. In the second half Neil Viney scored for Big Gay Al's Not SSF but Mike Burge also scored for Hertha Beerlin so the final score was 2-1 and the stag weekend derby would not come to fruition. That didn't matter for Hertha Beerlin though as they were now just two wins from silverware.
