The
17th September 2016 marked our Latvian debut
as we visited Riga for the very first time.
We were hugely impressed with what this charming
city offered - a beautiful Old Town, lots of
green parks, a great nightlife and value for
money beer. In terms of the football tournament,
the local teams were very friendly and hospitable
to our travelling teams from England, France
and Lithuania.
No doubt French side L'A;biceleste found them
very accommodating as they put opening game
defeat behind them to go on and win their second
title (after the 2013 Mallorca Fives). They
became the 10th team in eurofootballfives.com
history to claim a second tournament win. They
saw off a Riga-based team of Spanish & Portuguese
via a penalty shoot-out after Leilupe came from
2-0 down to equalise with the last kick of the
Cup Final.
In
the Plate Final we saw DHFC claim victory 3-1
over a Red Cow Belgrade team who had made a
third successive eurofootballfives.com final
and left as Runners-Up for the third time. Many
congratulations to DHFC who came from 0-1 down
to win 3-1. In the third tier Trophy it was
another penalty shoot-out deciding victory as
Aliance (Lat) saw off FC Maroon (Eng) 3-2 after
a 0-0 draw in normal time.
Personal honours went to Cedric Castarede of
L'Albiceleste who was the top goalscorer on
the day with a haul of 13 goals. He was also
top goalscorer when L'Albiceleste (playing as
Grant Thornton) won the 2013 Mallorca Fives.
