* One Calamski (Eng) won 2-1 on penalties.

For the ninth time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. This was the sixth time we had a 24-team event and there was also the 25-team Barcelona Fives in 2013 through to 2015. This was a great opportunity for the teams finishing 5th and 6th in the morning group phase to turn their fortunes around and walk away with a trophy.

The Trophy would have a false start here in Riga as the Aliance versus Crazy Gang fixture could not be fulfilled by The Crazy Gang. Over the course of the group phase they lost players to injury and even had a referee drafted in for their final couple of games. They were forced to withdraw and Aliance were therefore handed a bye to the Semi-Finals with a 3-0 walkover win.

It was the end of the day for The Crazy Gang on the field in 2016. They plan to join us in Vilnius for the 2017 Vilnius Tournament next September and we look forward to seeing them then.

The Trophy action would begin on Pitch B as Riga United would entertain It's Back. It's Back were so confident of not taking victory that they had booked a taxi for the end of the game. Riga United were aware of this and considered throwing the game to steal the taxi and make It's Back play again. I bet UEFA don't have these issues!

In all seriousness Riga United would come into the game as favourites as the highest placed finishers of the two teams in the group phase. What ensued was an absolute goal fest which we will try to pick the bones out of.

1-0    Marcus Kallstrom puts Riga United ahead

2-0    Marcus Kallstrom doubles the lead.

3-0    Farhat Yilmaz makes it 3-0 as Riga United look to make the game safe.

4-0    Atis Legladines adds to the tally in a one-sided first half.

Half-time

5-0    Marcus Kallstrom completes his hat-trick

5-1    Tom Brunt scores what appears to be a consolation.

5-2   Jamie Hall adds another a minute later

5-3   Tom Brunt makes it 3 goals in 2 minutes.

5-4   Tom Brunt completes a hat-trick as the comeback is well and truly on.

6-4   Joe Band increases the Riga United lead.

7-4   Farhat Yilmaz kills off the comeback dream

7-5   Jamie Hall has the final say as he signs off the tournament for It's Back

Full-time…..what a game!

On Pitch C it was FC Maroon versus FC Sharks.

These two teams both came from the FC Dad / Maroon / Sharks stable and it was the first time that two teams from this stable had met head to head in eurofootballfives.com competition. The game was therefore a derby match and although we do not get too many of these games, when they do occur they can often possess a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates. This game had a bit of blood and thunder about it with tackles flying in but ultimately in good spirits.

The two teams shared the spoils at the end of the first half with a James Alawi goal (FC Maroon) and a Lewis Hubbard strike (FC Shark) setting up a great second half. It was James Alawi again who edged FC Maroon ahead after the break. 2-1 became 3-1 when Brett Zimmerman notched his fifth of the tournament.

If there was any doubt over that result that was settled when James Alawi completed his hat-trick for 4-1. It was FC Maroon's third hat-trick of the day and they clinched bragging rights over their tour compatriots and also a berth in the Trophy Semi-Final.

Last but not least was Cruz Del Sur B against One Calamski. Cruz Del Sur B came into the game as 5th position in Group D versus One Calamski's 6th position in Group C.

There was previous today between the two squads but not the two teams. In Group C, One Calamski had played Cruz Del Sur's A team and lost narrowly 1-0. Whilst in Group D, Cruz Del Sur B had lost narrowly to One Calamski's sister squad, Saga Louts, 2-1.

This was a third tight game between the two squads and the tightest yet. There was nothing to separate the two teams at either the half-time or the full-time whistle. Goalkeepers Johnny Preston and Ashley Hamilton along with their defences were dominant as the game finished 0-0. The 2016 Riga Tournament would have its first penalty shoot-out.

Cruz Del Sur B would take the first penalty and it was David Jamieson who stepped forward to take it. Johnny Preston got a hand to it but the power meant it went in off the post for 1-0. Jason Carr then thundered in the equalizer. It was advantage to One Calamski when Adam Cummins saw Johnny Preston dive to his left and push away Cruz Del Sur B's second penalty.

David Tyrell had the chance to put One Calamski in the ascendency but his power penalty down the middle was saved by Ashley Hamilton. We were all level again as Danny McGee stepped forward. He was the team's top scorer with 3 today but he was unable to find the target here as put the ball over the top. Ian Mansley had the chance to win it for One Calamski and he did just that as he placed his spot-kick into the bottom corner to send his team through.
