Group B began with FC Maroon versus Yac Club.

FC Maroon are the sister club of FC Dad and FC Sharks who are also here in Riga. They made their debut in the 2013 Lisbon Tournament and were arguably the unluckiest team of the tournament with two victories to their name in the group phase before going out on goal difference. If we had a fair play award they would have won it – agreeing to play a Portuguese team who were late for kick-off when they could have claimed a 3-0 walkover which would have seen them go through. This game against the Portuguese ended in defeat and it was their opposition who went through on goal difference. FC Maroon – we salute your sportsmanship.

They were also pretty unfortunate at the 2014 Budapest Fives where just 1 defeat saw them finish 5th in the group with a haul of 6 points that included draws with 2009 Valencia Fives winners (9 Nana Budds) and 2015 Budapest Fives winners (Csabagyongye). In the Trophy competition they defeated Stanford FC 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals before a 2-0 Semi-Final defeat to eventual winners Contejus Hurricanes. An injury hit campaign at the 2015 Barcelona Fives saw them finish 5th in Group E before a resounding 7-1 win in the Trophy Play-off. They then went out 6-2 to FC Atwood in the QF.

Yac Club were on debut and had acquitted themselves well in their first eurofootballfives.com fixture. There was nothing between the teams in the opening half, 0-0. In the second half Yac Club went on to secure all 3 points as a Nick Pocock goal secured a 1-0 victory.

Match 2 saw The Crazy Gang versus FK Prienai Lithuania.

The Crazy Gang (Eng) made their eurofootballfives.com debut in 2010 when we held a charity tournament in Manchester on behalf of The Prostate Cancer Charity. They finished 5th in their 6-team group and narrowly missed out on the knock-out phase. They then made their European debut at the 2014 Bratislava Fives and drew a highly competitive group finishing in 6 th position. A Trophy Quarter-Final followed where they went out to the eventual Trophy Winners, Ziar Crew.

They were one of six teams here in Riga who competed in Lisbon last year. They finished 6th in Group B to qualify for the Trophy competition and went out in the Quarter-Finals to Frank Hirth who went on to complete a Plate & Trophy double in Lisbon.

It proved to be a difficult start for The Crazy Gang as they quickly found themselves 3-0 down as Tadas Simanaitis, Donatas Dainauskas and Donatas Bendinskas found the net for the FK Prienai. After half-time The Crazy Gang recovered a little and there was no further score.

FK Prienai had the honour of being the first team to represent Lithuania in our tournaments and it was our privilege to welcome them to the tournament. They had started with a win!

The last two teams to take to the field were Melee FC and Zemniecki.

Melee FC played in the 2013 Barcelona Fives and finished joint top with ADP Netherlands but second on goal difference. Their haul of 9 points (from a possible 12) saw them qualify for the Cup where they defeated Club Tropicana Drinks FC in the QF and Sporting Gingham in the SF. The Cup Final was a very close affair but unfortunately for Melee FC they finished runners-up, 1-0, to Los Swallacticos of Northern Ireland.

They followed up Barcelona with an appearance at the 2014 Amsterdam Fives. They started off well winning 7-0 and 3-0 before a couple of defeats threatened their Cup qualification. A 6-1 win in the final group game ensured they would qualify for the elite competition. A 2-2 draw against East Compton Eagles in the QF saw them go through via penalties before a fine 4-1 SF win over Return of the Dancing Horses III meant a second successive Cup Final. They were to be Runners-Up again after Athletico Do Hollande claimed their third eurofootballfives.com title. Third time lucky for Melee FC?

It was not quite to be at the 2015 Lisbon Tournament although they started off very well. They won Group C to qualify for the Cup competition again. They drew with 2014 Mallorca Tournament winners, Cheesecake FC, 2-2 in the Quarter-Finals and went through on penalties. They then lost narrowly in the Semi-Finals, 1-0, to Fidelidade (Por). Could Riga 2016 be their year?

Melee FC were up and running in the first half with captain Jack Dell scoring their first of the day. There was a second half goal for David Stothard that helped Melee on their way to a 2-1 win.

It was a tough baptism of fire for Zemniecki who were making their debut but time was still very much on their side to make their mark in Group B. Janis Klepanis scored their first goal in a eurofootballfives.com tournament.
