Going into the final round of games it was do or die now for these six teams. First up was The Crazy Gang versus FC Maroon. In qualification terms there was little riding on this as both teams knew they would be advancing to the Trophy competition this afternoon. At stake though was 5th place and a (theoretically) advantageous place in the Quarter-Final draw.

FC Maroon were a point ahead of their opponents at kick-off so a draw would be enough for them although a win to go into the knock-out phase would be very welcome.

As we saw in Round 4, The Crazy Gang were running on empty a little bit and had used the emergency signing of one of the referees to tend goal for them. If there is a moral to this game then it is referees do not make great goalkeepers. Referees constantly take abuse when officiating so it is very easy to lay the blame at their door when they are in goal and concede ten – yes, ten.

FC Maroon put in a superb performance and pulled off the biggest win of the day. They ran in 7 goals in the first half alone. From the first minute until the half time whistle the goals flew in. Brett Zimmerman scored twice in the opening two minutes before Matt Alawi helped himself to a couple. Zimmerman's hat-trick made it 5-0 before James Alawi added a sixth. Matt Alawi joined Zimmerman in the fight for the match ball as he completed his hat-trick.

The second half kicked off and The Crazy Gang had steadied the ship for a few minutes before their defence was breached again – James Alawai made it 8-0 with his second of the game. Ryan Sheppard and Rich Mason then got in on the act as FC Maroon hit double figures. A great way to end the group.

So, just two more games to go in Group B and the penultimate fixture was Melee FC against Yac Club. The teams currently sat in third and fourth. With the top two due to meet face-to-face in the final game of the group, this was a great opportunity for the team that could take victory here.

To qualify for the Cup, Yac Club needed to win and hope for a FK Prienai Lithuania win in the final game. Yac Club currently had a goal difference of +2 whilst Zemniecki had +6 so they would also need a swing in goal difference. Anything less and Yac Club would be playing in the Plate.

For Melee FC, they needed to win to guarantee a place in the Cup. A draw would only be good enough if FK Prienai Lithuania won by 3 goals over Zemniecki.

Melee FC had reached the Cup on their previous 3 eurofootballfives.com appearances and needed to pull a result out the bag to keep that 100% record going. Today, they had won their first two games and then drawn their last two. Could they get back to winning ways?

It certainly looked that way in the first half as two goals from Kevin Lewis put Melee FC in control. Yac Club needed not only to win but a swing in goal difference over Zemniecki so their hopes of reaching the Cup were fading fast. Those hopes all but disappeared when David Stothard made it 3-0 to Melee FC with a couple of minutes to go. Final score, 3-0.

Many congratulations to Melee FC who finished the group unbeaten and would qualify for the Cup. Who would join them?

The final game of Group B was Zemniecki versus FK Prienai Lithuania. It was the top two teams at the start of Round 5. Melee FC had since overtaken them so this was now a battle for the second Cup qualifying place.

Zemniecki were the form team in the group with 3 consecutive wins coming into the group but they were currently in third position at kick-off. Only a win would be good enough for them to go through at the expense of their opponents.

FK Prienai Lithuania remained unbeaten with 3 wins and 1 draw to their name. A win would see them qualify for the Cup as Group B champions. A draw would achieve the same feat as they would finish level with Melee FC but had a superior goal difference. A defeat would see them miss out on the Cup and play in the Plate.

The first half of this game came and went with the two teams level at 0-0. As things stood, the current score suited FK Prienai Lithuania more than it did Zemniecki. The onus was on Zemniecki to go on and win the game but they couldn't find the elusive goal they needed. The two defences finished on top and when the referee blew for full-time we were still deadlocked at 0-0.

The two teams picked up 1 point each – it was the point that would see FK Prienai Lithuania win Group B and qualify for the Cup so many congratulations to them.

We offer our commiserations to Zemniecki who with a superb haul of 10 points would just miss out on the Cup. They would play in the Plate and would no doubt start as favourites in that competition.
