As we entered the final Round of games it was do or die for the teams in reaching the knock-out stages.

One team who didn't have too much to worry about was Cruz Del Sur A. They had qualified for the Cup with one game to spare. They still needed a point to be absolutely sure of the Group C title and they faced a team in form, Factset. Their Latvian opponents had grown into the tournament and after a narrow 3-2 loss had picked up 7 points from a possible 9. Cruz Del Sur A still had a 100% record with 4 wins out of 4.

With two form teams in direct combat we expected a close encounter of the footballing kind and that's we got. It was honours even in the first half with Thomas Lawro continuing his goal-scoring run from the last game with another one here. Factset were in the goals too with 6 in their last game and Andrey Rijonem was on target for the Riga-based team.

The second half was to produce a winner and it was that man Thomas Lawro again who now had 4 goals in 2 games and this was arguably the most important as it secured all 3 points for his team in a 2-1 win. It meant Cruz Del Sur A would storm into the Cup competition on the back of 5 wins out of 5. It was their best ever group phase performance in eurofootballfives.com competition.

Riga United met One Calamski in the penultimate game of Group C. Both teams occupied the Trophy qualification places at present but a win for either, combined with a Red Cow Belgrade defeat in the next game, would mean a place in the Plate for the victor. Should this game end in a draw then both teams would play in this afternoon's Trophy competition.

It was Riga United who got off to the perfect start with Marcus Kallstrom scoring in the first minute. It was an early setback for One Calamski but one from which they recovered just after the half-way point in the first period as Simon Dearing restored parity at 1-1.

The second half kicked off at 1-1 and the draw was precisely the result the teams didn't need. Clearly a draw was better than defeat but in the context of the group it was going to do neither team any favours. Both teams needed a win to have hopes of reaching the Plate but neither team could find the goal that would have propelled them into the higher competition. The match finished perfectly for the pools coupon, 1-1.

That left us with Red Cow Belgrade versus Drunken DisAudley to wrap up Group C. This was potentially looking like a massive game but the other results in Round 5 had lessened the importance as both teams effectively knew their fate. Red Cow Belgrade would be playing in the Plate regardless of the result and would most likely finish fourth unless they won by 17 goals to over-turn goal difference on Factset.

Drunken DisAudley would finish in second position regardless of the result here. Obviously they would like to go through to the Cup with some momentum and there was still pride and honour to play for. The teams could relax and have a free hit at this game with no pressure on them. What resulted was a goal-fest.

We had 9 goals to savour.
