At the start of Round 2 we had Fail Madrid versus L'Albiceleste. The latter were one of the favourites for the tournament and had tasted defeat in round 1 – there was already some early pressure on the French team. In four previous tournaments they had never lost an opening game so we would see how they would bounce back here?

Their opponents, Fail Madrid, had started off with a superb comeback victory in Round 1 so if they could secure another win they would be flying at the start of Group A.

It was honours even at half-time with the two teams locked together at 0-0 although L'Albiceleste should have been ahead. Cedric Castarede had the chance from the penalty spot but put his kick wide.

In the second half Cedric Castarede quickly forgot that miss and found his goal-scoring boots. He put the French team 1-0 up, 2-0 up and then completed his hat-trick as he secured a fine 3-0 win for his team. Cedric Castarede was the tournament top goalscorer with 7 goals at the 2013 Mallorca Fives and he had his first goals of the Riga Tournament.

In the next game we had FC Shark (Eng) and Aliance (Lat) both looking for their first points of the tournament. FC Shark had been competitive in their first game except for a short period before half-time. Aliance had lead twice in their first fixture before ultimately slipping to a last-minute defeat.

Goals in this game were conspicuous by their absence as the two teams looked evenly matched. The first half came and went with neither team able to make the crucial breakthrough. The second half kicked off at 0-0 and remained at 0-0 when the referee blew the final whistle on proceedings.

There was nothing between the teams and both earned a point. Only time would tell how valuable this point would be but, for now, the teams had got their first points registered on their board and could use this result as a springboard for their tournament challenge.

The final game of Round 2 was DHFC against CAP FC. In Round 1 we mentioned that we would further introduce DHFC later on and, true to our word, here we go.

DHFC (Eng), like Fail Madrid, took the 2015 Berlin Fives to 2016 Riga Tournament route in eurofootballfives.com competition. They finished 5th in Group C with 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats to their name to qualify for the Plate. There followed a 0-0 draw in the Quarter-Finals against Rayford Athletic. Penalties were required to settle it and DHFC missed out 3-2 in the shoot-out

Both these teams came into the game on the back of victory and it was an early top of the table encounter. A win for either team here would put them in control of Group A whilst a draw would see them share the lead at the top going into Round 3.

As with the previous game in Round 2 we had a tight encounter with defences on top. The scorer was untroubled as we finished level at 0-0. Both teams would have to settle for a point – was this a point gained or two points dropped? We shall see as the group unfolds.
