The
next game in Group D was the big one – a top
of the table clash between Lielupe and FC Dad.
I bet that's something FC Dad weren't expecting
to hear at the start of the day, especially
with just 5 players, but 7 points from 9 had
put them in Group D title contention.
There
was no doubt that this would be FC Dad's toughest
task yet in their “Leicester-esque” campaign.
If they could pull off a win they would qualify
for the Cup with a game to spare. A draw would
still be a good result as it would mean they
would just need to take a point in their final
game to clinch a place in the Cup.
For
Lielupe, a win would wrap up the Group D win.
The draw between Cruz Del Sur B and Fylingdales
meant that they were already assured of Cup
qualification. Lielupe had a 100% record so
far and would no doubt start as favourites for
the game although it proved to be a close contest.
The
first half produced the one goal and it came
from Miguel Fontes with his fourth strike of
the morning. The score remained at 1-0 until
half-time and for much of the second half. It
was only as the game reached the latter stages
that Lielupe put it to bed with Miguel Ferreira
making it 2-0.
Congratulations
to Lielupe on the win, maintaining their 100%
record and winning Group D. Despite the defeat
FC Dad were still well placed to join their
opponents in the Cup.
