As we entered the final Round of games Lielupe were in the enviable position of already having secured Cup football and the Group D win. They had the luxury of a free game in terms of the pressure being off but they did have a 100% record to maintain.

RAF Fylingdales did not have this luxury – they still had a lot to play for. What was at stake for them?

Win: If they were to win and FC Dad failed to win they would qualify for the Cup in second provided that Cruz Del Sur B also did not win by 3 goals more than Fylingdales won by.

Draw: A draw would see RAF Fylingdales qualify for the Plate but whether it would be 3rd or 4th would be decided by the result of Cruz Del Sur B v Saga Louts.

Loss: A loss would mean the Plate unless they lost by 3 goals more than Cruz Del Sur B would lose to Saga Louts by. In this case, they would slip into the Trophy.

They therefore had to win to have a chance of the Cup or avoid a heavy defeat to avoid the Trophy. It as Lielupe who took the early lead when Miguel Fontes hit his fifth of the tournament. After that it was goals at both ends with Carlos Chillon and Miguel Ferreira on target for Lielupe. Paul Carney and James Martin were on target for RAF Fylingdales. The final score was 3-2.

Lielupe showed no signs of letting their standards slip as the group reached its climax as they went through with the maximum 15 points. RAF Fylingdales had done enough in our opinion to secure Plate football.

Cruz Del Sur B met Saga Louts in the penultimate game of Group D and there was so much to be decided. Either of these two teams could qualify for the Cup or fall into the Trophy.

Cruz Del Sur B could qualify in second for the Cup with a win combined with an FC Dad defeat or possibly if FC Dad drew (if Cruz Del Sur won by 3). A draw would see them reach the Plate. A defeat would see them fall into the Trophy as Saga Louts would climb above them.

Saga Louts could qualify in second for the Cup with a win and an FC Dad defeat. A draw would see Saga Louts miss out on the Plate on goal difference to RAF Fylingdales. A defeat would also see them play in the Trophy. This was a must win game for Saga Louts.

With the game underway it was a pretty even contest but Saga Louts had the edge thanks to David Ayris's second strike in as many games. The goal piled the pressure on to Cruz Del Sur B. That pressure doubled in the second half when Matt Johnson added to his burgeoning tally to make it 2-0. The points looked in the bag.

Danny McGee's third goal of the tournament made it 2-1 to set-up a thrilling finale. There were chances at either end as Cruz Del Sur B had renewed hope and really went for it. The highlight of the closing stages was a wonder save by Ashley Hamilton that prevented Saga Louts sealing the points. The Gordon Banks-esque save had everyone watching gasping and applauding.

When the referee called time on the game it was Saga Louts who were victorious, 2-1. They would now watch FC Dad to see if they would play in the Cup or Plate. Cruz Del Sur B now knew the Trophy awaited them.

That left us with FC Dad versus It's Back. This fixture had relevance today and also some history behind it. The relevance today was FC Dad had Cup qualification hanging in the balance – they needed a draw (or better) to clinch second place. It's Back knew they would finish sixth regardless of the result here.

The history of this fixture takes us back to the 2011 Prague Masters where the two teams met twice. They met in Group A when It's Back won 3-1 and then in the Plate Quarter-Finals when It's Back won 5-1. Fast forward 5 years to Riga and FC Dad had mostly the same squad – 4 of their players today played in those Prague games (Calum Jones the addition since then). It's Back had 3 of their 6-strong squad today in action in Prague (Tom Brunt, Simon Hawkins and Jonny Amos).

It was the new addition to the squad Calum Jones who arguably made the difference in Riga as he scored twice in the first half to put FC Dad in control. His goals would have relieved the pressure for his team in their quest for the Cup and would have dealt a blow to the hopes of Saga Louts watching on.

Ben McNamee sealed the victory in the second half when he made it 3-0 and capped a fine performance for him and his team this morning. They finished on 10 points (a massive 6 points clear of their next best haul) and qualified for the elite Cup competition for the first time.
