The
Warriors had so far had their slowest start to
a tournament with 3 points from the first possible
9. At the equivalent stage in the Algarve 2015
they were on 6 and in Lisbon 2016 they were on
4. To emulate their heroics of qualifying for
the Cup in Lisbon they needed to get maximum points
in their final two games and hope for other results
to go their way. In Round 4 they were up against
C'an Pastilla Vets.
C'an
Pastilla Vets had struggled so far with 3 defeats
but they had been competitive in all games. Their
defeats had read 2-1, 2-0 and 2-0 so they had
not taken a pasting but they were about to face
their heaviest defeat of the day. It did not look
like it at half-time as the two teams entered
half-time level at 0-0.
The
Warriors moved through the gears in the second
half. Andy Chrascina broke the deadlock for 1-0
and when he added a second the result looked secure.
To put the game beyond any doubt Russ Weeks scored
a third. It was a great result for The Warriors
and kept their Cup hopes alive for now.
Crabtree
Amblers were up next against WEEDS Colts as third
place met first. Crabtree Amblers could make it
a three time at the top with victory. WEEDS Colts
could book their place in the Cup with a win of
their own.
I
think it was fair to say, based on Lisbon results,
that WEEDS Colts were one of the surprise package
of the tournament. 5 defeats in Lisbon had been
followed up with 3 wins at the start of the Mallorca
event. The other impressive facet of their performance
was that WEEDS Colts were yet to concede today.
That continued in the first half here as the two
teams went into the break level at 0-0.
In
the context of the group a draw was a better result
for WEEDS Colts than it was for Crabtree Amblers.
Ultimately the two teams had to settle for a point
each as neither team could find a successful path
through to goal and we finished all square at
0-0.
Only
time would tell if this was a point gained or
two points dropped.
Southgate
County Vets picked up their 3-0 walkover over
Ferriolrence. The significance of the result meaning
that they had qualified for the Cup with a game
to spare.
