We
were at the 2017 Mallorca Tournament Cup Semi-Final
stage and from 18 teams who started the day we
were down to the final 4. The only thing guaranteed
at this stage was that we would have an England
v Spain Cup Final. We had two English teams in
the 1 st Semi-Final and two Spanish teams in the
2 nd Semi-Final.
Up
first was Wilmslow Whoppers versus Finn's Chins.
Wilmslow Whoppers were looking like the champions
elect and their grip on the favourites tag was
tightened after the Quarter-Finals because, arguably
their two biggest challengers, the Group A and
Group C winners were both eliminated.
Wilmslow
Whoppers had played 6 and won all 6 to date with
21 goals for and 4 against. If that wasn't title
winning form we didn't know what was. Finn's Chins
had a hell of a task ahead of them but they had
accounted for Lilchicago in the last round and
so the Whoppers could not take them for granted.
Finn's Chins had won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1 of
their games to date with 9 goals for and just
5 against.
As
you can see, the two teams had similar defensive
records but Wilmslow Whoppers had showed they
had much greater firepower – 12 extra goals scored
or 2 per game on average to put it in perspective.
It appeared the key for Finn's Chins would be
to try and keep a lid on their opponent's attacking
prowess. Easier said than done.
From
the start, Wilmslow Whoppers assumed the ascendency
and never looked back. Their domination of the
game and ability in front of goal was frightening.
They weren't only winning this Semi-Final but
sending out a massive message to whoever they
would meet in the Cup Final. They produced the
biggest win of the entire tournament and to do
it at the Cup Semi-Final stage was emphatic.
Jamie
Frost was amongst the goals again – 2 more in
this game taking his tally to the day to 14. Laurence
Taylor took his total to 5, Peter Boyle bagged
a brace to also move him on to 5. Craig Plunkett
also scored a double to take him to 3 for the
day.
Finn's
Chins did get in a couple of blows with Ben Fillingham
round off the day nicely for him personaly.
Final
score, 7-2. Wilmslow Whoppers were in the Cup
Final.
