Dickie
Dogs were back in action against FC Mahou in Round
2 having picked up a solid opening point in Round
1. Their second game looked to be a tougher proposition.
As
mentioned in Round 1, FC Mahou were competing
in the Veterans Tournament for the first time
and celebrating with a change of name from their
previous guise as FC Radbroke.
They
were making their ninth eurofootballfives appearance
in Mallorca after securing 2 tournament wins in
their previous 8 events - the 2011 Prague Masters
and 2013 Algarve Open. In previous early tournaments
they were only knocked out by other eurofootballfives.com
winners – Bulgaria's Lozenetz City (Prague Masters
2009, Manchester Fives 2010) in the Cup Quarter-Finals
of the 2009 Barca Fives and Spain's Futbol City
in the Cup Semi-Finals of the 2010 Valencia Fives.
This trend continued in the 2012 Mallorca Tournament
when they went out in the Cup Quarter-Finals to
eventual winners Cosegur Balear of Spain.
At
the 2014 Budapest Fives they drew a tough group
and qualified for the Plate competition which
was as strong as some Cup competitions that we've
had in the past – they duly went on to win it
to become one of a few number of teams to win
both Cup and Plate trophies. A weather effected
2015 Amsterdam Fives saw them finish as top goalscorers
in the group phase but finish 3rd in Group B.
Storm Zejko curtailed the tournament before the
knock-out phase – a completely freak occurrence.
Under the blue skies of the 2016 Mallorca Tournament
they were on fine form as they finished 2nd in
Group C with 4 wins out of 5 as they scored 22
goals with just 1 conceded (al 11-0 win certainly
helped the goal difference). In the Cup Quarter-Final
they lost to 2011 winners Policia Local in a 5-3
thriller.
They
followed up their 7-0 win over WEEDS Youth this
morning with a 3-0 victory here over Dickie Dogs.
Pete Cox was in amongst the goals again with two
more in this fixture. His goals came either side
of a Steve Sachro strike. Sachro also scoring
for the second game in succession.
