Dickie Dogs were back in action against FC Mahou in Round 2 having picked up a solid opening point in Round 1. Their second game looked to be a tougher proposition.

As mentioned in Round 1, FC Mahou were competing in the Veterans Tournament for the first time and celebrating with a change of name from their previous guise as FC Radbroke.

They were making their ninth eurofootballfives appearance in Mallorca after securing 2 tournament wins in their previous 8 events - the 2011 Prague Masters and 2013 Algarve Open. In previous early tournaments they were only knocked out by other eurofootballfives.com winners – Bulgaria's Lozenetz City (Prague Masters 2009, Manchester Fives 2010) in the Cup Quarter-Finals of the 2009 Barca Fives and Spain's Futbol City in the Cup Semi-Finals of the 2010 Valencia Fives. This trend continued in the 2012 Mallorca Tournament when they went out in the Cup Quarter-Finals to eventual winners Cosegur Balear of Spain.

At the 2014 Budapest Fives they drew a tough group and qualified for the Plate competition which was as strong as some Cup competitions that we've had in the past – they duly went on to win it to become one of a few number of teams to win both Cup and Plate trophies. A weather effected 2015 Amsterdam Fives saw them finish as top goalscorers in the group phase but finish 3rd in Group B. Storm Zejko curtailed the tournament before the knock-out phase – a completely freak occurrence. Under the blue skies of the 2016 Mallorca Tournament they were on fine form as they finished 2nd in Group C with 4 wins out of 5 as they scored 22 goals with just 1 conceded (al 11-0 win certainly helped the goal difference). In the Cup Quarter-Final they lost to 2011 winners Policia Local in a 5-3 thriller.

They followed up their 7-0 win over WEEDS Youth this morning with a 3-0 victory here over Dickie Dogs. Pete Cox was in amongst the goals again with two more in this fixture. His goals came either side of a Steve Sachro strike. Sachro also scoring for the second game in succession.

The next game was due to be Poppy's NFI versus Blue Water CF. As we'd learned in Round 1, Poppy's NFI were a no-show so it meant they would concede 3-0 wins to each of their opponents. Now, it was the turn of Blue Water CF to collect their walkover win.

WEEDS entered the 2016 Lisbon Veterans Tournament with one team and return to action in Mallorca with two teams. It was a tough baptism for WEEDS in Lisbon as a series of narrow defeats (3 x 1-0 for example) meant they left us at the end of the group phase. WEEDS Youth had lost their first game in Round 1 and were now up against Stilton Rovers.

Stilton Rovers (Eng) are one of a number of teams who were returning to action from Lisbon last year. Of all the travelling teams, they had the best record in the group phase with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat to complete a haul of 10 points and a goal difference of +7. They went out at the Cup Semi-Final stage to Tanagra (Por).

WEEDS Youth had got a bum draw with arguably the tournament favourites (and 2 x eurofootballfives.com winners) FC Mahou in Round 1 and now they were up against the most successful English team at last year's Veterans event.

Stilton Rovers continued their good group form from Lisbon and won this game in convincing fashion. Stephen Green scored their first of the day before James Williams and a Peter Ciezak hat-trick secured a 5-1 win. A Gareth ‘Bully' Bowen goal provided something for WEEDS Youth to cheer but, alas for them, it was a mere consolation.
