The
first game of Round 2 saw WEEDS Colts take on
C'an Pastilla Vets.
WEEDS
Colts were the second team in the travelling WEEDS
group to get underway. The “Colts” would have
seen their “Youth” team already get underway in
Group A with a couple of defeats to their name.
The Colts would naturally hope to get off to a
brighter start.
WEEDS
Colts had three points on the board courtesy of
their walkover win and so had some extra time
before kicking off their campaign in earnest.
They were up against a C'an Pastilla Vets team
who had narrowly lost their opener, 2-1.
With
the game underway the two teams played out a fairly
even first half. Neither attack could find a way
through their opposition's defence and both goalkeeper's
had their clean sheets intact. The deadlock was
to be broken after the turnaround as Jimmy Mills
opened the scoring for the English side. The points
were secure when Ian ‘Sherlock' Holmes provided
the second.
WEEDS
Colts sat on top of Group B, C'an Pastilla Vets
were helping to prop up the foot of the table.
The
Warriors were due to be on next against Ferriolrence.
As we now knew, Ferriolrence had failed to show
up for the tournament so The Warriors collected
a 3-0 win.
To
complete Round 2 we had Crabtree Amblers versus
Southgate County Vets. This was a repeat of a
Group A game in the 2016 Lisbon Veterans Tournament.
12 months ago in Portugal these two teams played
out a 0-0 draw to complete the group phase.
If
goals were conspicuous by their absence in Lisbon
last year they were on full show here in Mallorca.
We had three goals to enjoy in the first half
with Southgate County Vets leading by the odd
goal at the break, 2-1. Southgate County Vets
twin strikeforce of Ken Middleton and Declan O'Leary
both found the net in Round 1 and they both found
the net in Round 2. Ade Chester was also in the
goals for the second game running as his strike
meant Crabtree Amblers were very much in this
game.
Both
teams had won their first games so another win
here would put them in a share of the lead at
the summit of Group B. No further goals in the
second half meant it was Southgate County Vets
who enjoyed that lofty position. Crabtree Amblers
currently occupied the mid-table positions.
