We began Round 4 with Brioche FS versus Abertawe.

Whilst we accept the oval ball is more popular than the spherical ball in Wales we have had surprisingly few teams from Wales compared to other nations at our tournaments over the last 11 seasons. Abertawe were making just the 7th appearance and the track record of Welsh teams so far read:

Goals Aloud, 2011 Amsterdam Fives:

6 th of 7 teams, Group A (3 rd to 6 th level on 7 points)

P6 W2-D1-L3 Goals: 11-19 Points: 7

Plate QF: Lost 3-2 to Deportivo Dooradoyle

Goals Aloud, 2012 Algarve Open:

4th of 5 teams, Group B

P4 W1-D0-L3 Goals: 4-10 Points: 3

Plate QF: Won 2-1 v Bede FC

Plate SF: Lost 1-0 to Contejus Hurricanes

AFC Ramos, 2012 Mallorca Tournament:

5th of 6 teams, Group A

P5 W1-D0-L4 Goals: 4-17 Points: 3

Wrexham Rednecks, 2014 Barcelona Fives:

P4 W0-D1-L3 Goals: 1-10 Points: 1

DNQ for knock-out phase.

Wrexham Rednecks, 2015 Mallorca Tournament:

4th of 6 teams, Group A

P5 W1-D1-L3 Goals: 5-5 Points: 4

Plate QF: Won 7-3 v Stanford FC

Plate SF: Lost 5-1 v Seleccion Balear

Abertawe today remained win-less but they were stronger than they were 4 years ago. They desperately needed that first European win and it came against Brioche FS.

They found themselves 1-0 down at half-time as Wilmer Esterilla scored for Brioche FS. Abertawe launch a second half comeback as Robert Jenkins equalised. Lee Seager scored for the second game in a row to give his side a maiden victory in Mallorca – many congratulations. Hopefully the first of many to come.

In Game 11 of Group A we had Lilchicago versus Mavericks. This was the heavyweight contest of the group with the top two coming face to face.

Mavericks made their eurofootballfives.com debut at the 2015 Algarve Open in Portugal. They made a blistering start to life in Europe with a 3-0 win over Ireland's Depo Legends and 4-1 over compatriots, Whiteley FC (also here in Mallorca). Their form then tailed off in the group phase finishing 4th out of the 6 teams. They qualified for the Plate and after a 1-1 draw with AFC Shooters B they progressed 2-1 on penalties. Another 1-1 draw followed in the Semi-Finals against Skidmarks and another shoot-out victory (3-2) meant they reached a debut final. It was a step too far as they lost 3-0 to AFC Shooters A but picked up runners-up medals in the presentation.

They followed up their appearance in the Algarve with a trip to the 2016 Barcelona Fives. In contrast to the Algarve they got off to a slow start before picking up 4-0 and 3-1 wins over Real SoSoBad (Ire) and Giggs Boson FC (Eng) to give them hopes of qualification in our 32-team event. They then had to withdraw and so conceded 2 x 3-0 defeats which meant they slipped to 7th (of 8 teams) and miss out on the knock-out phase.

Mavericks had been on great form today but this would be their sternest test yet. They found themselves a goal down at the break as Sarunas Krasauskas put Lilchicago ahead. Mavericks hit back in the second half through Mark Adamson and earned a valuable point.

The draw meant the two teams remained locked together at the top, now with 10 points. Mavericks enjoyed 1 st place on goal difference.

We were now due to have Whiteley FC versus Finn's Chins but due to a little fixture mix up this game would now be postponed until the end of Round 5.
