Plate Semi-Final time and things were getting interesting. First up was Compact Records versus Where's Dave.

Compact Records can consider themselves unfortunate not to be playing in the Cup competition with 4 wins from 5 games. 12 points is the most points secured by a team in our Veterans tournaments not to qualify for the Cup. They would therefore be the favourites to go on and win the Plate. They had a goal difference of +10 with 15 goals to their name.

Where's Dave had been highly competitive throughout with 2 wins to their name and 3 defeats (all 1-0). It meant that despite being in fourth place they had the 6th best goal difference of the morning and the joint best third defence of the morning.

If Where's Dave were to get through they would reach their third eurofootballfives.com Plate Final and their fifth final overall. Twice they have finished runners-up in the Plate so could this be third time lucky and go all they way. This would be a big ask for them to conquer Compact Records and reach the Plate Final though. Could they do it?

If so, they would have to come from behind as it was Compact Records who took the early advantage. They scored courtesy of a Ricardo Marols goal. In the second half 1-0 became 2-0 when Tiago Lampiao doubled the lead and put Compact Records in control. A third goal killed the game off with another Tiago Lampiao strike completing a 3-0 victory.

It was to be a first eurofootballfives.com final for Compact Records as we reluctantly bid farewell to Where's Dave in the 2017 Lisbon Tournament.

The second Semi-Final was an encounter between Jims40yearoldveg and Telferscot Athletic.

This game looked like it be a lot closer than the first Semi-Final as only 1 point separated the two teams this morning. Jims40yearoldveg amassed 7 points on their way to 3rd in Group B. Telferscot FC claimed 6 points as they finished 4th in Group A. There was a bigger contrast in the two teams records when it came to goal difference though. Whilst Telferscot FC out-scored Jims40yearoldveg (5-4) it was at the other end that was most telling as Telferscot FC had conceded 14 compared with Jims40yearoldveg's 8. Could this be where this game was won or lost?

It was Jims40yearoldveg who took the early lead in this one as Rob Nash found the back of the net for his second of the day. The signs were ominous for Telferscot Athletic as Jims40yearoldveg had gone on to win every game in which they had taken the lead so far. We reached half-time with the score still 1-0.

The second half came and went with Jim Harbridge preserving his third clean sheet of the day ably assisted by an inspired defence. This was the best record of all the British teams in the draw. Telferscot Athletic threw everything at their opponents to retain their place at the tournament but inevitably left gaps at the back which Jims40yearoldveg took advantage of. Mitch Pryke and John Rachwal adding a second and a third. Final score, 3-0. Jims40yearoldveg had a European Final to prepare for.

Telferscot Athletic joined their other team on the sidelines to watch the rest of the tournament. We hope you enjoyed your visit to the Stadium of Light later on in the evening to watch Benfica.
