Talhos Mariete were back in action on the field of play in Round 2. They would play against The Special Ones.

Both teams had suffered defeat in the opening fixture and were looking to bounce back quickly. Although early in the day the teams needed to get points on the board sooner rather than later to kick-start their challenge.

The Special Ones were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance in as many years following their appearance at the open age 2016 Barcelona Fives (as Farcelona). The lads found results difficult to come by as they lost seven out of seven in the group phase which saw them eliminated at the end of Group C. Group C was the proverbial group of death. We wish them success at the Veterans level and hoped for their sake that they hadn't drawn another group of death.

In Round 1 here in Lisbon, Neil Collett had scored their first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition Could The Special Ones build on it?

Sadly for them we had to answer in the negative. Jafeth was the man to score first for the Portuguese before Bruno Clemente made it 2-0 before half-time. In the second half Bruno Clemente scored his second of the game for 3-0 before Jafeth also added his second to complete a fine 4-0 victory.

In the next game we had one team looking for their first victory of the day in the shape of Saga Louts. They were up against Compact Records who were aiming to make it two wins out of two and make a good early case for Cup qualification.

Saga Louts were part of the Bure Park Old Boys group who had a rich eurofootballfives.com tradition dating back to the 2009 Prague Trophy. The Saga Louts “brand” first played in the 2012 Valencia Fives where they reached the Cup Quarter-Finals. In 2013, Saga Louts went all the way to the Plate Final. They lead 3-0 at one stage but were hauled in by Awiw and eventually defeated on penalties. At the 2014 Bratislava Fives Saga Louts finished 4th in their respective group and went out to GSF Drunkerz in the Plate QF.

Here in Lisbon 2 years ago, Saga Louts finished 4 th in their group to qualify for the Plate. They lost in the Plate Quarter-Finals to Frank Hirth who went on to win the Plate (and also the Plate at the 2016 Prague Tournament). Their most recent performance was at the 2016 Riga Tournament. Saga Louts had a good group phase with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats to finish third. A Plate Quarter-Final defeat saw them go out 5-2 to Red Cow Belgrade.

Saga Louts seemed to have drawn a particularly tough pair of opening fixtures. In their first game Compact Records had won having fallen behind. They were to score first in this game with Jose Coria scoring his first of the tournament. Jason Carr levelled things up before the break though for 1-1.

Compact Records were back in front in the second half when Fernando Palmcil made it 2-1. Fernando Palmcil then added his second of the half to make it 3-1 and seal the win.

The third fixture of the round was FC Miracle versus Telferscot Athletic. The two teams had both got off to a winning start this morning. A second win for either side would see them go joint top on 6 points. A draw would see the two teams share second place on 4 points.

FC Miracle were representing Hungary in the 2017 Lisbon Veterans Tournament and would be a team to watch for the title. They made a fine debut at the 2011 Barca Fives. In a difficult group they finished level on points with France's Luminy Wolves (2009 champions). They went on to make the final where they led 1-0 for a period but ultimately missed out 2-1 to a strong Midshires FC team. In the 2012 Algarve Open they were equally as strong winning Group C and winning 5 successive games before losing in the Cup Semi-Finals 1-0 to CFC A of France. It was third time lucky for FC Miracle at the 2012 Valencia Fives when they powered their way to a first eurofootballfives.com victory. At the 2013 Mallorca Fives they reached the Cup Semi-Finals where they lost 4-2 to Grant Thornton from Paris. At the 2014 Barcelona Fives they won 3 out of 4 group games to finish in second place in Group B. They went out 2-1 to Tinniedad & Tobacco (who would later go on and win the 2016 Krakow Trophy).

It means, in their 5 tournaments with us they had won once, finished 2nd once, gone out to French teams in Cup Semi-Finals twice and also had 1 Cup Quarter-Final.

They put out quite a statement here as Laszlo Zsolt scored twice in the first half to put his team in control at half-time. Laszlo Zsolt scored a hat-trick in Round 1 and he was to repeat the feat in Round 2 as he made it 3-0. Janos Molnar opened his personal account to make it 4-0.
