It
was 8th versus 3rd at the start of Round 3 with
Retainers Acadamy versus Indoorsoccer.
Retainers
Academy had lost both their games today, Indoorsoccer
had won both of theirs so an easy prediction would
be a Portuguese victory. Indoorsoccer would be
playing their 10th game in eurofootballfives.com
competition. So far, they had 6 wins, 1 draw and
2 defeats on their Lisbon Tournament CV.
Once
this game was over they would boast a 70% win
ratio but they were made to work hard for it.
Retainers Academy put in their best performance
to date but it was not quite enough to take any
points from the game.
Indoorsoccer's
Pedro Mendes would score the only goal of the
game and their goalkeeper, Vitor Goncalves, would
keep his first clean sheet in the tournament.
Those two were the key men in earning the Portuguese
their third successive win and taking them to
the top of Group A.
At
the start of Round 3, the top two teams were Brewin
Dolphin and Barrymoore's Swimming Club. They shared
the lead on 6 points with both teams securing
two 3-0 wins each. The two English teams will
have just seen Indoorsoccer go 3 points clear
and the victor here would go to the top of the
table.
It
was Barrymoore's Swimming Club who struck first
and took a crucial lead. Jason James was the scorer.
A draw would not be the worst result in the world
with plenty of games left to play and the top
four all qualifying for the Cup. Could Brewin
Dolphin find an equalizer?
The
short answer to that is no. Barrymoore's Swimming
Club kept a third clean sheet of the tournament
and would claim first place in the table on goal
difference over Indoorsoccer. Whilst Brewin Dolphin
would no doubt be disappointed there would be
no need to be disheartened as they were still
well placed in Group A.
The
next game in Round 3 was Leave It FC versus PMPCAR.
Both teams sat on 3 points with a win and a loss
each.
Leave
It FC showed remarkable consistency in their squad
list with all six members of their 2016 Barcelona
Fives campaign featuring in their 2017 Lisbon
Tournament line-up. They were then boosted by
the addition of Jai Malhi to give them greater
squad depth. Leave It FC had 2 points to their
name at this stage of their Barcelona challenge
and they started an extra point to the good here.
The
English team looked to be on their way to climbing
further up the table when they took the lead through
Ketan Patel scored for the second game in a row.
PMPCAR were on the front foot looking for an equalizer
and they claimed it when David Silva levelled
things up at 1-1. By the way, it wasn't “that”
David Silva who was in action at the Etihad helping
Man City beat Crystal Palace 5-0.
To
complete Round 3 we had ADP Netherlands back on
Pitch A. The Dutch team were looking for their
first goals and first points of the tournament.
Their next opponents would be Cruz Del Sur B who
were also looking for their first points of the
day. The English team did have a goal to their
name and a better defensive record than their
Dutch opponents so far.
It
was Cruz Del Sur B who hit the front with David
Jamieson breaking the deadlock. ADP Netherlands
broke their duck when Ruud Viveen equalized for
1-1. The goal seemed to spark ADP into life. Rutger
Luiten scored to make it 2-1 as his team turned
the game on its head. 2-1 became 3-1 with Remco
Nijland sealing a first win of the tournament.
It was back to the drawing board for Cruz Del
Sur B.
