The
start of Round 3 saw AAK S&S meet Wonderleague.
AAK S&S had 1 win and 1 defeat to their name
so far as did their Portuguese opponents. The
two teams sat in the mid-table positions with
Wonderleague ahead on goal difference. Wonderleague
will have come into the game buoyed by their first
win. AAK S&S came into the game on the back
of defeat.
Momentum
can be a big thing in these tournaments – if it
is with you it can be irresistible as you get
on a roll. If it is against you it can be very
difficult to lift morale and get things back on
track. Wonderleague had the momentum with them
after Round 2 and they certainly kept it going
here.
Wonderleague
raced into a 3-0 lead with Kristofferson Minale
scoring the first two and Dom J Tavares keeping
up his record of scoring in every game to make
it 3-0. The game looked done and dusted but AAK
S&S never gave up and hit back. Gary Bartley
scored twice to reduce the deficit to 3-2 but
it was too late for the English team who ultimately
ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Group
B had been dealing purely in wins so far. With
the 9 results we've seen so far all were victories
without a draw in sight. Jackson's 5 and Cruz
Del Sur A would be hoping this would be another
win (as long as they were on the right end of
the result). Cruz Del Sur A were seeking to open
up a 3 point lead at the top with Pangare Futebol
Clube still to play in Round 3. Jackson's 5 could
make it a four team tie at the top of Group A
if they could take all 3 points.
If
you took results back to the 2015 Amsterdam Fives,
Cruz Del Sur A were on a run of 8 consecutive
wins in the group phase of our tournaments. It
was a run that had seen them score 20 and concede
just 5 over that period. With 2 of those wins
coming this morning it looked a really tough task
for Jackson's 5 which made their performance all
the more impressive.
Adry
Alonso scored for the second game in a row to
give his team the lead before William Sambrook
matched his team-mate by scoring his second in
as many games. It was a second clean sheet for
Mauro Hernandez Cardenal as Jackson's 5 had firmly
put that opening game defeat behind them. Final
score, 2-0.
Up
next in Group B was Lun-don FC versus Tommie's
Guns. These two teams currently sat in 7th and
8th position in the table and although it was
still early in Group B these teams needed to start
picking up points to avoid getting cut adrift
at the foot of the table.
Lun-don
FC as we mentioned before played at the 2016 Barcelona
Fives and reflected the Athletico De Leave squad
from last year. Lun-don FC featured all 6 members
of that squad plus the additional firepower of
Kingsley Ikwueto. They picked up a 2-2 draw versus
Unbelievable Technippers in Barcelona and had
another draw on their CV here with a 0-0 versus
Tommie's Guns. The game was also notable as it
marked their first clean sheet in Europe so well
done to Arti Manhoran and his defence.
For
Tommie's Guns the draw will have come as a welcome
break after shipping six versus Pangare FC. In
the context of the overall group table, the draw
did not do much team either good but they edged
closer to those above them and had broken their
duck in the points column. The start of better
things to come?
To
complete Round 3 we had FC Seagrave versus Pangare
Futebol Clube. If FC Seagrave were to win we would
have the fascinating scenario of five teams all
sharing the lead of Group B on six points. The
riches on offer for Pangare Futebol Clube if they
could win was sole occupancy of top spot and a
3 point lead. A draw would see FC Seagrave inch
closer to the leaders and give Pangare the group
lead but a much slender one.
At
the start of Round 3, Pangare Futebol Clube lead
the group on goal difference and they looked in
frightening form especially in front of goal.
They had scored 9 goals so far. The FC Seagrave
defence would have to be at their best if they
were to get something out of the game.
The
Pangare Futebol Clube attack proved too potent
though. Victor Spaghol kept up his fine personal
start to the day. He had scored a goal each in
Rounds 1 and 2 but doubled his tournament tally
with a brace here. At 2-0 it looked game and set
but Denilson Jesus made it game, set and match
when he converted for 3-0.
When
the final whistle blew the score remained 3-0
and it was Pangare Futebol Clube who had their
100% record intact. They were the team to catch
in Group B.
